CLINICAL ASSOCIATE HOSPITALIST SUPPORTING SUBSPECIALTY PATIENTS
CHEO/University of Ottawa


The Department of Pediatrics at CHEO University of Ottawa is recruiting a general pediatrician to a clinical associate (CA) hospitalist role.


The Department of Pediatrics is affiliated with CHEO the CHEO Research Institute and the University of Ottawa. Together we provide outstanding patient care leading research and quality pediatric medical education. The Department of Pediatrics provides health care to newborns children and youth of the Ottawa area as well as those from Eastern Ontario Western Quebec Nunavut and parts of Northern Ontario (population of approximately 1.8 million). The Department of Pediatrics has 18 distinct divisions.


The clinical associate (CA) hospitalist role will assist in providing care for medical inpatients who are admitted under one of the medical subspecialists. The role would involve primarily coverage of weekdays and assist the staff subspecialists in providing care to patients admitted under them with guidance for decision making and support from the MRP at all times. This would involve both the day to day care of these patients as well as facilitating their admission from the Emergency Department or clinic and transfers from ICU.


CHEOs inpatient subspecialty medical units admit a large breadth and volume of pediatric patients throughout the year. The patients admitted under the subspecialists are all known to that service with an established diagnosis. The most frequent admissions are from hematology/oncology gastroenterology neurology and endocrinology.


The successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop a hospital based academic practice engage in teaching and participate in innovative research and advocacy. They will be appointed at the University of Ottawa academic rank commensurate with experience and academic accomplishment.
