Job Description

 We are seeking a dynamic and experienced parttime Paint Technician to join our dedicated team who will contribute to developing the next generation of artists.

The Paint Technician will play a key role in supporting both undergraduate students and postgraduate candidates within the school. You will provide handson technical instruction ensure that all painting materials and tools are wellmaintained and supervise the painting studios to ensure a safe and effective learning environment.

This is a parttime 15 hours per week) permanent position based onsite.
Remuneration is $62400 $77000 per annum (pro rata for part time hours) depending on skills and experience. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Instruction & Support: Provide technical guidance to undergraduate students in various painting techniques helping them develop their skills across a broad range of materials.
  • Surface & Substrate Preparation: Demonstrate and assist with preparation of painting surfaces including priming stretching canvases and preparing other substrates for artwork.
  • Materials Expertise: Maintain knowledge of and provide instruction on various painting media including oils acrylics watercolours and other contemporary techniques.
  • Tool & Equipment Maintenance: Ensure all tools and equipment are in good working order and meet the technical needs of students.
  • Health & Safety Compliance: Follow and enforce safety guidelines in the studio ensuring that students are aware of and adhere to safe practices.
  • Work Environment: Maintain an organized clean and safe studio space for students including overseeing the disposal of materials and chemicals in accordance with safety protocols.
  • Timetabling & Coordination: Coordinate and manage the timetabling of work schedules to support the curriculum demands ensuring all sessions are fully prepared.
  • Studio Supervision: Oversee the daytoday operations of the painting studio including ensuring students follow procedures and supporting faculty as needed.

Skills and Experience

Our ideal candidates will bring:

  • Indepth knowledge of painting materials techniques and studio practices.
  • Strong understanding of health and safety protocols in an art studio environment.
  • Previous experience working in arts education.
  • Ability to provide technical instruction and offer feedback to students.
  • Excellent organizational and timemanagement skills to balance a range of tasks.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Desirable skills and experience include:

  • Proven experience working as a Paint Technician or in a similar role within an art or educational setting.
  • Proven experience as a painter with your own artistic practice.
  • A degree or diploma in Fine Arts or a related field.
  • Previous experience working in a tertiary or higher education environment.
