POSITION SUMMARY:
The Senior Vice President for Musician Advancement and Provost (SVP) is responsible for the design and implementation of the core components of the New World Symphony (NWS) Fellowship program. The SVP leads the organizations efforts to support the Fellows musical and professional development during the program and through ongoing alumni development. The SVP is a key contributor and member of the senior leadership team.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Serve as a member of the senior leadership team in establishing organizational strategy priorities goals and budget and fostering a positive organizational culture
- Oversee the design implementation and assessment of the NWS curriculum intended to develop the necessary skill set for the 21st century musician including instruction in instrumental performance audition training digital media communications community and audience engagement wellness leadership and entrepreneurship and others areas of artistic and educational importance
- Develop and maintain relationships with the 87 Fellows and provide counsel in matters related to their professional educational artistic and personal development
- In collaboration with the Artistic Director and Deans evaluate and support the individual artistic progress and performance of Fellows
- Collaborate with the Dean for Admissions Alumni and Fellow Services and Admissions and Alumni Manager to continuously assess and evolve both the Fellowship recruitment program to attract top talent and the alumni program to include coaching opportunities gatherings communications and recognition
- Oversee all aspects of the organizations educational accreditation and manage the relationship with the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM)
- Support the work of the Development and Communications departments while broadening the horizons of Fellows in regard to fundraising and representing the institution and the art form
- In collaboration with the NWS Media department advance the vision for and participation of Fellows in digital learning and performance experiences
- Develop maintain and ensure compliance with program policies and procedures outlined in the Fellowship Handbook
- Develop and manage the budget for NWS Musician Advancement department
- Keep current on conservatory and musical training programs by maintaining contact with others in the field (e.g. other schools of music professional associations educational groups etc.
- Attend and present at relevant conferences on behalf of NWS
- Supervise Musician Advancement staff listed below
- Perform other jobrelated duties as assigned
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supervises the Dean of Admissions Alumni and Fellow Services; Dean of Instrumental Performance; Director of Community and Equity Impact; and Director of Entrepreneurial Leadership
Qualifications :
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelors degree in Music Education or a related field and a minimum of ten years of experience in educational program development within an arts organization; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Working knowledge of the classical music environment
- A high degree of creativity
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to interact positively and sensitively with a wide variety of personalities in various settings
- High degree of organization and attention to detail
- Ability to multitask set priorities and meet deadlines
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications; experience with ArtsVision is desired
- Passion for the mission of the New World Symphony and commitment to its values of community respect excellence accountability and trust
- Fluency in English is required; fluency in Spanish is desired
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to work a flexible schedule including some nights and weekends
