Job Description

TITLE: Staff Nurse REVISED 12/12/23

Belle Valley and Grandview Elementary Schools APPROVED 02/26/24

10:00 am 2:00 pm 4 hrs/day 181 days per school year)

$22.96/hour

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Minimum Licensed Practical Nurse license required.

  1. Maintain confidentiality as required under HIPAA and FERPA regulations.
  2. Health care experience required.
  3. Work under the direct supervision of Certified School Nurse.
  4. Demonstrate sensitivity to the health needs of students of various age and ability levels diverse cultures and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  5. Ability to relate to and communicate with students parents and staff.
  6. Such alternative to the above as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

REPORTS TO:Certified School Nurse Building Principal Director of Student Services Superintendent.

JOB GOAL:To provide ongoing routine and emergent medical support to the students and staff of Millcreek Township School District.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Respond to the emergent needs of students who present symptoms of healthrelated problems.
  2. Provide medical first aid services in the absence of the Certified School Nurse in accordance with District policy and 28 PA Code 23.79 and the first aid standing orders and guidelines of the school district.
  3. Contact Certified School Nurse and advise of symptoms of student healthrelated problems.
  4. Contact parents or guardian of child with symptoms of school healthrelated problem per Certified School Nurse instruction.
  5. Initiate phone contact with parents and guardians of children who are absent from school for healthrelated reasons per Certified School Nurse instruction.
  6. Contact parents or guardians of students for followup as requested by Certified School Nurse.
  7. Assist Certified School Nurse in record keeping for all students including mandated height and weight screening.
  8. Assist Certified School Nurse in review and maintenance of immunization data.
  9. Schedule students for various screening procedures and dental examinations as directed by Certified School Nurse.
  10. Contact other school districts regarding transfer of students health records per Certified School Nurse instruction.
  11. Assist Certified School Nurse in filling out school accident reports.
  12. Distribute medication to students pursuant to District Policy 210.
  13. Perform mandated screenings under the direction of the school nurse.
  14. Any other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or their designee.

POSITION SPECIFICATIONS:

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  1. Ability to sit talk and hear.
  2. Ability to stand walk climb balance stoop kneel crouch or crawl and move quickly when necessary to promote student learning and/or safety.
  3. Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Over 50 pounds requires assistance. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

SENSORY ABILITY:

  1. Ability to speak clearly and distinctly.

  1. Auditory acuity to be able to use telephone.
  2. Visual acuity to read correspondence and computer screen.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  1. Indoor and outdoor environments.

TEMPERAMENT:

  1. Ability to work as a member of a team.
  2. Must be courteous.
  3. Must be cooperative congenial service oriented and promote these qualities in the building.
  4. Ability to work in an environment with frequent interruptions.

  2. Ability to demonstrate good written and verbal skills.
  3. Ability to effectively present information in oneonone and small group situations to students staff and other employees of the organization.
  4. Ability to read write and do computations.
  5. Ability to work independently and make workrelated decisions.
  6. Ability to complete assigned tasks with minimal supervision.
  7. Ability to exercise good judgment in prioritizing tasks and problemsolving.
  8. Ability to use correct grammar sentence structure and spelling.
  9. Ability to communicate effectively at all organizational levels.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: One hundred eightyfive work year hourly pay in accordance with the Millcreek Educational Assistants Association Meet and Discuss Agreement. Hours assigned by principal.

EVALUATION:Performance evaluated annually by the principal or their designee.
