Position Description: The Department of Microbiology & Immunology Department ofNeurology and the Wisconsin Institute for Neurosciences (WINS) at theMedical College of Wisconsin are jointly recruiting internationallyrecognized candidates for the Wigdale Endowed Professorship inNeuroBiome Research. The position reflects outstanding growth inAcademic Research coupling basic microbiome research in Microbiology& Immunology (M&I) with advanced clinical care in Neurology and thenewly established Wisconsin Institute for Neurosciences. Many academicand clinical units across campus have devoted faculty and researchprograms in the neurosciences demonstrating our priorities and strength in this area. Thesuccessful candidate will be expected to develop and maintain a vigorous nationally funded research program that alignswith current research interests within M&I and our allied Clinical research efforts. The Wigdale Professor in NeuroBiomeResearch will nucleate a larger effort to facilitate mechanistic dissection of neurodegenerative diseases and will have accessto the Rodent Behavior Core housed within the Neuroscience Research Center NRC. Candidates at the rank of Associate orFull Professor will be considered for this position. We seek investigators focused on microbial (bacteria viral fungal) factorsas drivers of neurodegenerative diseases. Investigators with expertise in HostMicrobe Interactions Animal Models forNeurodegeneration and Clinical and Translational Science are particularly encouraged to apply. The department has more than 40 research faculty and 40 graduate studentsand is the hub of microbial pathogenesis and immunology research at MCW. We provide leadership knowledge supportand resources to investigators and clinicians all around the Milwaukee Regional Medical Center campus including at theMedical College of Wisconsin Froedtert Hospital Childrens Wisconsin and the Blood Research Institute of Wisconsin.Research interests within the department currently include immunooncology inflammation and immunology virology bacteriology parasitology antimicrobial resistance microbial pathogenesis and the role of the microbiome in host healthand disease.
In 2019 we completed stateoftheart renovations of our floor 25000 sq ft) in the Basic Science Building. The brand newopenlab concept has optimized space for performing cuttingedge biomedical research and is designed for collegiality andcollaboration. Partnering with the Center for Immunology Center for Microbiome Research Cancer Center and the Centerfor Infectious Disease Research our faculty establish and maintain fruitful collaborative projects with basic scienceresearchers and clinical partners. The Department also manages a fully functional contiguous BSL3/ABSL3 facility.

Zablocki Medical Center. Position Requirements: Candidates should possess a PhD an MDPhD or equivalent degrees and have relevant academicresearch and leadership experience. A record of peerreviewed publications and extramural funding is required. Successfulcandidates will be visionary collegial and highly motivated experts in their field. Evidence of leadership in multidisciplinary research teams including between basic clinical and translational disciplines is highly desirable. The ideal candidate isexpected to have a strong commitment to faculty development graduate student training and medical education.
