LOCATION: Utqiagvik Alaska


DEPARTMENT: Academic Affairs


REPORTS TO: Dean of Academic Affairs


WORK SCHEDULE: Per Semester/Course Contract


COMPENSATION: $1150 to $1725 per credit determined by education credentials


Ilisagvik College is rooted in the ancestral homeland of the Iupiat. As an institution we are Unapologetically Iupiaq. This means exercising the sovereign inherent freedom to educate our community through and supported by our Iupiaq worldview values knowledge and protocols. The Iupiaq way of life is woven into our curriculum programs activities and daily interactions within Ilisagvik College and our community partners.


SUMMARY OF POSITION:

Teaches INU 121 Elementary Iupiaq I which introduces students to the sounds and pronunciation of the Iupiaq language. Students will also gain an elementary vocabulary necessary to create basic sentences. 121 is a threecredit class that typically meets for three hours each week over the course of the semester.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Prepares and maintains updated instructional materials course outlines and curriculum.
  • Develops and submits current course syllabus using the college template.
  • Prepares administrative documents such as student withdrawals and attendance.
  • Evaluates student performance and timely submits midterm and final grades to the Registrar.
  • Teaches using multiple modalities as necessary including MyCampus (Iisaviks Learning Management System) videoconference (Zoom) and on site in Utqiavik.
  • Collaborates with the Iupiaq Studies Program Chair as needed which may include submitting deidentified student work for assessment purposes.
  • Maintain office hours (inperson telephonically or online).
  • Participates in professional development as necessary to be proficient in the Colleges current technologies and learning platform.
  • Complies with College policies procedures and administrative directives as well as state federal and local laws regulations and ordinances.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.


KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Demonstrated professional and/or teaching experience in Iupiaq Studies and the Iupiaq language.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact effectively in a multicultural environment.
  • Proficient in MS Office Word Excel or PowerPoint.
  • Demonstrated teaching experience in a postsecondary environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in curriculum development.
  • Demonstrated experience with distance delivery.
  • Ability to pass a preemployment background check.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in one or more of the following areas: postsecondary educational systems North Slope Borough NSB institutions and organizations; Iupiat culture language values and traditions.
  • Ability to interpret and represent North Slope community values customs and beliefs for the College.
  • Ability to interpret and represent College actions and western institutions to the North Slope community.
  • Ability to support Iisavik Colleges mission.



EDUCATION/CERTIFICATES/TRAINING Required:

  • Associate degree or equivalent experience and/or knowledge in Iupiaq Studies or related field.
  • A recognized expert in Iupiaq language culture and traditions.

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATES/TRAINING Preferred:

  • Bachelors or Masters degree or equivalent in the area of instruction.

The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision distance vision color vision peripheral visiondepth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
