Description of Work

Certified Transportation Driver/Youth Counselor Technician (YTCDriver) provides transportation and supervision for juveniles to and from required destinations such as court hearings detention centers youth development centers residential placement medical appointments and other required destinations. Monitor youth while in secure custody during court as requested and provide nonsecure transportation for youth as authorized and when not in secure custody. YCTDrivers will also be required to inspect vehicles regularly and maintain appropriate maintenance (preventative service and inspection schedule) of vehicle fleet.
Will also be responsible for:- Maintaining transportation documents for all trips.
- Monitor gas oil and tires daily.
- Conduct searches of vehicle for contraband prior to and after each trip.

To qualify for this position applicants must document on the application that they possess ALL of the following:
- Experience with oral and written communication skills.
- Experience establishing rapport and interacting with a variety of individuals.
- Experience driving a motor vehicle safely and ensuring the safety of juveniles being transported.
Management Preferences:- General knowledge of behaviors exhibited by adjudicated juveniles.
- General knowledge of supportive counseling techniques.
Please note:You must be physically capable of applying the proper methods and procedures to physically restrain juveniles and defend self after being properly training by the department. Necessary Special Qualification:Applicants for positions designated as Juvenile Justice Officers are subject to and must meet the hiring and training standards established by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission as defined in Title 12 Chapter 9 of the NC Administrative Code by the statutory authority of GS 17C.Selected applicant must attend and successfully complete and pass the Juvenile Justice Officer Basic Training certification program. The certification requires four weeks to complete and is comprised of classroom and physically demanding training. This training is carried out at regional training centers and requires consecutive overnight stays. In addition the selected candidate must:Have or be able to obtain required documentation for certification as a Juvenile Justice Officer (i.e. a diploma).Pass a Criminal Background checkPass a Drug Screening testPass a Psychological testPass a Sexual Risk Screening testPass a Physical (to include Vision and Hearing)Be a US citizenBe at least 20 years of ageHave a valid drivers license Supplemental and Contact Information
