Job Description

The Position:
Reporting to the Head of the Upper School theDirector of Student Leadership leads the development and oversight of thestudent leadership experience in the Upper School at Havergal College. Inaddition to the expectations of the faculty role the Director of StudentLeadership supports the Prefect team the faculty Prefect mentors as well as the cocurricular club and competitive club faculty advisors in the Senior School. This role partners with Heads of School(Middle and Senior) as well as the Head of the Junior School and Assistant Head Junior School to implement Havergals leadership attributes holistically partnering in model thatsupport allstudents (JK12 indeveloping their capacity to lead effectively.
Specific Accountabilities:
- Supports theHead of the Upper School to operationalize Havergals leadership attributes in a missionaligned wayand reflects the Portrait of a Grad.
- Work with theHeads of Schools (Middle and Senior) as well as the Head of the Junior School and Assistant Head Junior School to ensure the attributes are implemented developmentally from JK12and new students are inducted into leadership development.
- Design andlead leadership workshops including planning and coordinating the leadershipretreat for incoming grade 12 student leaders.
- Support thedevelopment and growth of faculty advisors for formal leaders (Club AdvisorsCompetitive Club Advisors Prefect Mentors).
- Lead andmanage the Senior School club programming including the competitive club programs.
- Coordinatewith the HeadSenior School(responsible for House Captains and House Advisors) to ensure a collaborativestudent leadership experience.
- Assist withthe management of budgets within the student leadership program.
- Manage thestudent election process including communications to students and parents about the process and the results (election of Prefects House CaptainsHouse Executive Student Grade Representatives Club Heads CommunityPartnership Heads and Performing Arts Heads).
- Coordinate all club and new club applications faculty supervision andattendance.
- Connect andcollaborate with all COSSOT leaders in the network to coordinate schedules andprovide appropriate programming at Havergal and elsewhere. Collaborate with theHeadSenior Schoolto identify dates and ensure COSSOT programming works within the Havergalcalendar.
- Lead theSocial Prefects to plan and organize COSSOT events including semiformals.
Qualifications Knowledge and Experience
- Postsecondaryeducation including OCT in good standing.
- Exemplaryteaching experience in an academic middle or secondary school.
- Experience inan independent school is an asset.
- Previous workdeveloping student leaders.
- Previousleadership experience in an educational setting.
- An abilityand desire to work in a collaborative environment.
- Stronginterpersonal organizational timemanagement and communication skills.
- Commitmenttoward continued professional development and growth.
- Demonstratedenergy commitment and a readiness to participate in the cocurricular programand the diverse life of the school community.
