About the Role
The Childrens Counsellor for the SexualAbuse Intervention Program and the Community Mental Health Program providesindividual family and /or group counseling services to children between agesof 3 and 18 who have experienced violence. The Counsellor reports to the LeadChild and Family Counselling.
What Youll Do
- Delivers services per the SAIP and CMHP Schedule of Service.
- Ensures personal program and client safetyadhering to work safe standards.
- Provides a safe space for individual family andgroup counseling for children.
- Conducts client assessments and develops SMARTgoalbased treatment plans.
- Considers risk factors and safety in allinteractions with children youth and families.
- Collaborates with parents families and careproviders to support children.
- Builds rapport fosters trust and makes referralsto community resources.
- Participates in team meetings case discussions and clinical supervision.
- Engages in constructive feedback with clients colleagues and communitypartners.
- Maintains communication with schools and other agencies as needed.
- Demonstrates cultural competency with Indigenous families and communities.
- Keeps accurate client records per program and SCCSS policies.
- Works with the Program Lead to develop standardsaccountability measures and reports.
- Stays informed on community demographics to reduceservice barriers.
- Ensures effective service delivery consistent withagency mandates policies and compliance requirements.
- Supports ongoing compliance with accreditationstandards new standards and CARF requirements.
What You Bring
- Masters degree in clinical counseling socialwork psychology or related field (or relevant undergrad with relevant experience).
- Minimum three years experience in a related fieldpreferred.
- Experience with children/youth affected by sexualabuse and those under 12 with sexual behavior issues.
- Strong understanding of traumainformedantioppressive family systems work.
- Knowledge of colonial impacts includingresidential schools on Indigenous peoples.
- Understanding of violence dynamics againstmarginalized individuals.
- Ability to apply an antioppressive feministanalysis of gender violence.
- Expertise in abuse dynamics parenting mentalhealth and addictions.
- Knowledge of child development and experience withexpressive and evidencebased therapies.
- Skilled in working respectfully with diversecultures and socioeconomic backgrounds.
- Experience with nonviolent crisis interventionparticularly in mental health contexts.
- Flexible work style with ability to collaboratecase manage and advocate independently.
- Strong teamwork and partnership skills acrossprograms and community organizations.
- Excellent communication organization andinterpersonal skills.
- Advanced interviewing assessment and conflictresolution skills.
- Knowledge of relevant local provincial andfederal regulations.
- Proficiency in ECR electronic client recordssystems.
- Experience in the nonprofit sector is an asset.
