As Production Geologist you will provide services as required and your responsibilities will include but not limited to:
- Safety Health and Environment
- Use personal protective equipment (PPE) according to safety regulations and maintain it properly.
- Adhere to SHEQ standards for all work activities.
- Read sign off and follow all appropriate work instructions and standards.
- Attend safety meetings as instructed.
- Apply HIRA/Mini HIRA correctly and report safety and healthrelated issues.
- Maintain good housekeeping practices in the allocated area to ensure a hazardfree environment.
- Ensure that work practices do not endanger the safety of others.
- Comply with personal safety requirements.
- Ensure the safety of others and of direct reports (where applicable).
- Ensure that required risk assessments are in place.
- Active participation in VFLs Risk Assessments and closeout of Safety Actions.
- Performance and Delivery
- Geological Demarcation/Material Classification:
- Ensure geological models such as the Grade Prediction Model and Digline models pass audits by peer review and external consultants to provide for the inclusion of all geological data as per required standards.
- Geological Data:
- Ensure data models are completed within agreed timeframes to ensure operational delivery can be met.
- Incorporate all available geological data according to standards to ensure interpretations are acceptable to all role players and to enable decisionmaking.
- Identify untrustworthy geological data and address areas where insufficient data is available to ensure corrective action is taken.
- Ensure that all information (geology and chemistry values) is imported into Surpac after logging sampling and pit mapping are completed in a specific area to adjust geological contacts based on the latest information according to sound geological principles
- Use an updated grade control model to identify areas of further infill drilling (position and depth of
- boreholes).
- Ensure all interpretations are verified before the Section Manager of Production Geology signs off for approval.
- Monthly alignment with Resource geology ensures all relevant shortterm information is incorporated into grade control models.
- General Production:
- Ensure that general productionrelated activities like mapping drilling sampling and grade control follow standards.
- Ensure proper planning and supervision of drilling and pit mapping to improve the reliability of block models.
- Update the current database with the processed drilling and pit mapping information to ensure accurate and available data.
- Compile reconciliation reports to adhere to sound geological principles.
- Ensure quality assurance to comply with audit standards.
- Adhoc geological investigations.
- People & Teams (applicable to those positions that have direct reports)
- Manage subordinates key performance areas:
- Manage the development and implementation of a personal learning and growth plan.
- Manage and develop performance contracts for all subordinates.
- Ensure performance contracts and succession planning processes are deployed to support creating an enabling environment.
- Grow performance capability and talent in the team.
This role is in the Discovery & Geosciences (GEO) NC at a Band 6 level reporting to the Section Manager Production Geology /& Ore Control.
Qualifications :
- Grade 12
- National Diploma in Geology (NQF6
- B.Sc. Degree Geology (NQF7 Preferred
- Registered (full) with SACNASP.
- SA Drivers License Code B
Experience
- 35 years of relevant experience in production geology in the mining industry.
- Indepth understanding of relevant safety and mining legislation including the Mine Health and Safety Act and the Minerals and Energy Act.
- Good knowledge of Anglo American plc Safety and Sustainable development policies procedures and standards.
- Knowledge of Sishen Iron Ore Operational and Geotechnical Engineering Codes of Practices policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of geology practices principles and processes.
- Basic understanding of the risk assessment process.
- Knowledge of Mine Planning Principles.
