• Bachelors degree or higher
• For cocurricular subjects (art music physical education) teachers with a bachelors degree in the subject taught are preferred or at a minimum 36 hours of higher education credit in the subject area of instruction
• After offer is accepted satisfactory background check as required by state law and the South Carolina Department of Education

Position Specifics

Classical K6 grammar school teachers experience the joy of mastering the key elements of their instruction such as explicit phonics Singapore math Core Knowledge history and science and English grammar with support from peers within the school and other Ascent Classical Academies network of schools. Instruction in lower grammar (K2 emphasizes the primacy of literacy and number sense. Ascent Classical provides direct instruction in the early grades empowering teachers to be the authority in the classroom helping shape the minds hearts and bodies of young people.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Create a safe classroom environment for all students to learn and reach their fullest potential.
• Create thoughtful and wellplanned lessons while adhering to the curriculum
• Maintain an orderly classroom
• Provide timely and meaningful evaluation/correction of student work
• Engage students utilizing the Socratic method
• Lead students through intelligence charisma humor moral integrity and example
• Perform additional assigned campus duties
• Follow school policies and procedures to ensure the safety and security of students
• Provide reasonable assistance to students in need of individual help; assist students to makeup work after approved absences
• Communicate regularly and as needed with parents
• Attend special school events (e.g. information sessions concerts plays presentations)
• Attend all staff meetings and professional development opportunities
• Support and enforce the school dress and behavior codes and make reasonable efforts to promote the orderly behavior of all students
• Evaluate and document the students daily work keep gradebook updated monitor and inform parents of any deficiencies and prepare the grade reports
• Attend and participate in review meetings with the Headmaster/designate
• Pursue excellence in teaching and continue to develop knowledge of the great ideas and works of Western Civilization
• Maintain regular punctual attendance. Maintain professional appearance and adhere to relevant health and safety procedures
