Job Description

Summary

Assists physiciansin delivering patient care in the ambulatory setting. The MA assists in thedelivery of patient care to people of diverse backgrounds and must be able toeffectively communicate and assist the patients and their families.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Escort patientsto exam rooms interviews patients measure vital signs enter all medicaldocument/records in EMR system complete all measures needed for meaningfuluse.
  • Prepares treatment rooms for patient examinations; Assist physician in exam rooms.
  • Assist physicianswith all patient care medication refills ordering of diagnostic testing.Coordinate continuity of patient care with healthcare organizations andfacilities.
  • Answers the phone while maintaining a politeconsistent phone manner using proper telephone etiquette. Return all patientcalls and messages and providefeedback and answers to patient/physician/pharmacy calls.
  • Operates computer software and office equipment.
  • Perform other duties as needed to assistcoworkers which may include schedule/reschedule patient appointments checkin/out patients answering phones etc.

Professional Requirements

  • Meets dress code standards andadheres to dress code policy.
  • Completes annual educationrequirements.
  • Maintains regulatoryrequirements.
  • Maintains patientconfidentiality at all times.
  • Reports to work on time and asscheduled completes work within designated time.
  • Wears identification while onduty uses computerized punch time system correctly.
  • Completes inservices andreturns in a timely fashion.
  • Attends annual reviewdepartment inservices staff meetings and/or reviews all monthly staff meetingminutes per HealthStream.
  • Represents the organization in apositive and professional manner.
  • Actively participates inperformance improvement and continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities.
  • Complies with all organizationalpolicies regarding ethical business practices.
  • Communicates the mission ethicsand goals of the hospital as well as the focus statement of the department.
  • Promotes professional growth ofsubordinates by sharing knowledge and/or directing them to sources ifinformation appropriate to given situation.Utilizes journals books etc. to learn and/or improve new techniquesand equipment.
  • Assists other staff members inperforming any duty that enhances the delivery of patient care.

Regulatory Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Current BLS certification
  • Minimum of six 6 months to one 1 year ofrelated work experience.

Skills

  • Ability to communicate effectively in Englishboth verbally and in writing.
  • Basiccomputer knowledge.

Physical Demands

The physicaldemands described here are representative of those that must be met by anemployee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Whileperforming the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to talkand hear. This position is very active and requires repetitive motionsstanding walking bending kneeling and stooping all day. The employee mustfrequently lift or move items weighing up to 50 pounds.
