Job Description

Job Summary
The University of Utah College of Nursing is a community of scholars engaged in exemplary programs of funded research and distinguished scholarship. The Emma Eccles Jones Nursing Research Centers mission is to provide exceptional support that facilitates faculty success with research development grant submission and management and scholarly activity. The key responsibilities for this position are to provide diabetes care and education for the study titled Share plus: Continuous Glucose Monitoring with Data Sharing in Older Adults with T1D and Their Care Partners that is funded by the National Institutes of Health NIH . The major aim of this study is to test an intervention called Share plus aimed at improving the use of data sharing between persons with diabetes and their care partners in order to maximize the benefits of continuous glucose monitoring. This position is an important part of delivering the intervention to participants over three diabetes care and education sessions and two phone calls. Additionally this position will provide diabetes education for participants in the control condition from the Association of Diabetes Care and Education Specialist 7 curriculum. Limited flexible hours may be required with occasional evenings and weekends although this is anticipated to be rare. This position is funded through February 2026 although additional opportunities may remain beyond this time period. Participating in this NIH grant that is funded by the National Institutes of Diabetes Digestive and Kidney Diseases NIDDK is meaningful work and prestigious in terms of career experience. Opportunities will be available to participate in manuscripts and presentations.

Responsibilities
Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist CDCES credential is required with a minimum of 1year experience as a CDCES . Good Clinical Practices GCP and IRB CITI Course in the Protection of Human Research subjects certificate obtained within one month of hire and demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills are also required. Basic computer skills required. Delivers PWD and care partner education to control group participants using handouts from the ADCES 7 curriculum including the following topics: healthy coping healthy eating being active taking medication monitoring reducing risks and problemsolving in three sessions. Delivers person with diabetes PWD and care partner intervention education sessions using an intervention guide. Uses motivational interviewing questions problemsolving selfefficacy enhancement and action planning strategies to deliver diabetes care and education to the intervention group. Provide diabetes education to intervention group participants on communication problemsolving and action planning skills as part of the Share plus intervention. Provides education for the dyad PWD and care partners) on using the Dexcom Follow app and Clarity Apps to manage diabetes including the ambulatory glucose provide to determine glucose trends and patterns. Engage in datadriven conversations from the Clarity app and have using shared decision making develop a plan to help increase PWDs time in range and strategies to address hypo or hyperglycemia patterns food choices healthy eating exercise stress sleep illness. Charts counseling sessions using REDCap surveys and completes other research related surveys. Other reasonable duties as assigned. Seldom: Bending reaching overhead.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelors degree in a health sciences or related field or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience) with two years professional research experience and completion of University RATS Clinical Certification within one year of hire required. Exceptional organizational skills attention to detail and demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills also required. Knowledge of Good Clinical Practices FDA HIPAA and IRB regulations; an understanding of research procedures; and the ability to function independently is preferred. Departments may require IRB CITI Course or IATA DGR training within a specified timeframe. Departments may prefer a nursing degree for this position which requires the incumbent to have two years related experience and possess a nationally recognized research compliance certification. This position is patientsensitive and must fulfill all associated requirements.
