Residential Physical Education Activity Leader

Hours:Regular 217 day school session: The Activity Leader is to report to the assigned Day program Division Director at 1pm to review the plan for the day and assist as a direct care of the students. At 3pm Activity Leader will make a transition to the residential program to meet with the Recreational Director and review the plan to teach students according to the residential schedule until 9pm.

Vacation program: 8:15am4:15pm. Attend both 8:15am and 3:45pm staff meetings. During the scheduled vacation program Activity Leader will plan and lead activities to all students under supervision by the Director of Vacation Program.

JOB GOAL:
To design and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and specialized programs that integrate academic behavioral and life skills development for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). This position requires advanced knowledge in education theories curriculum development and special education methodologies.

Key Responsibilities:

Curriculum Development & Implementation

  • Develop and deliver individualized academic lessons aligned with the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks and Boston Higashi Schools curriculum.

  • Design monthly thematic lesson plans that address diverse learning needs while meeting IEP objectives.

  • Collaborate with special subject teachers to integrate specialized content into IEPs.

Performance Responsibilities

  • Participate in all student activities including extensive physical exercise such as jogging 13 miles daily to model and promote fitness and engagement

Specialized Program Design

  • Create and implement IEP goals/objectives for academics daily living skills and behavior management using evidencebased methodologies.

  • Prepare alternative portfolio assessments for students requiring MCAS accommodations.

  • Conduct comprehensive annual educational assessments based on daily observations and interactions.

Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Present student progress IEP goals and objectives during meetings with parents and school districts.

  • Communicate regularly with parents via notebooks phone calls conferences monthly reports and parent study meetings.

  • Maintain open communication with residential teachers to ensure consistency in student support.

Professional Development & Compliance

  • Attend inservice training sessions to stay updated on advancements in special education methodologies.

  • Participate in daily division meetings morning/afternoon meetings and monthly parent study sessions.

  • Adhere to policies related to confidentiality student rights and personnel guidelines.

Student Engagement & Supervision

  • Actively participate in all student activities including physical exercise such as jogging squatting lifting or standing for extended periods.

  • Serve as a role model during lessons and activities to inspire motivation and engagement among students.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelors Degree or Masters Degree in Special Education or a related field.

  • Teaching Certification or active pursuit of certification in Special Education.

Preferred:

  • Experience working with students with Autism Spectrum Disorder or similar populations.

  • Familiarity withDaily Life Therapymethodology (training provided if needed).

Additional Skills:

  • Strong communication skills for collaboration with parents educators and administrators.

  • Ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment.
