Job Description
Veteran Mental Health Peer Specialist

The Recovery Support Peer Specialist provides recoveryfocused services to individuals in MHMR programs adhering to TAC requirements. They offer recovery and wellness support mentoring and advocacy in both group and individual settings. Drawing from their personal recovery experience they teach the value of recovery model effective coping techniques and selfhelp strategies and foster positive relationships with support resources. The specialist develops and implements educational support and affiliation groups tailored to individual needs and preferences while assisting clients in efficiently utilizing community resources and natural supports.
Minimum qualifications High School Diploma/GED
Preferences: Completed peer specialist orientation and selfassessment completed Peer Specialist Core Training and passed the knowledge assessment
Substitutions: None
Experience: One 1 year Must have served in the US Armed Forces and have at least one 1 year of cumulative experience as a recipient of community and/or veteran mental health services for a condition within Texas target population along with selfreported life experience in active recovery.
License/Certifications: Within one 1 year of hire date obtain Mental Health Peer Specialist (MHPS) certification and maintain certification biannually by completing CEUs provided in Tarrant County; Valid Texas Drivers License
Special Courses: Complete Peer Specialist Core Training and Mental Health Peer Specialist training within 6 months of hire date. Complete Veteran Peer Specialist training within one 1 year of hire date.
