We invite applications for a 9month Limited Term Appointment position 8month teaching contract with a 4week paid preparatory period) at the rank of Lecturer or Assistant Professor to join our Forensic Sciences Program.

Job Information and Responsibilities

The Forensic Sciences Program at Saint Marys University invites applications for a ninemonth sessional appointment (nontenure track) at the rank of Lecturer or Assistant Professor effective August 4th 2025. The position will require the applicant to teach the equivalent of five singlesemester lecture sections.

Experience and Education Requirements

The ideal candidate must hold an MSc or PhD in a field related to the Forensic Sciences and have a record of effective teaching in the area of Forensic Sciences/Human Anatomy. Three specific courses that the applicant will be expected to teach are:

Role of Science in Forensics (Fall term. Lecture and lab). Students gain the skills needed to develop a critical perspective regarding the science underlying the practice of different fields in forensics. These skills are applied to critique different fields and to learn from the problems forensics has faced regarding a historical lack of scientific rigour.

Forensic Sciences in Practice (Winter term. Lecture and lab). This is the capstone course for the certificate in Forensic Sciences Program. Students will integrate their learning from previous courses gain a deeper understanding of areas of interest and improve communication skills through studentcentred activities such as the completion of research projects and collaboration with experts.

Forensic Human Anatomy (Winter term. Lecture and lab). Students are provided with a systematic approach to the study of human anatomy and the relation of structure design to facilitate function. Students investigate applied aspects of forensic anatomy of the deceased (cause and manner of death) as well as stress analyses and material properties of trauma and biomechanical forces acting on tissue.
