Job Description
Anticipated openings for Professional Writing Instructors to start January 13 2025. The Department of Writing Studies Rhetoric and Composition is searching for new parttime Professional Writing Instructors to teach sections of WRT 105 and WRT 205 in Spring 2025. Multiple sections may be available; teaching load for new instructors may be anywhere from 1 to 4 sections per semester dependent on need and availability. All offerings are contingent on budgetary approval and sufficient enrollment. WRT 105 Studio 1: Practices of Academic Writing 3 credit hours). Study and practice of writing processes including critical reading collaboration revision editing and the use of technologies. Focuses on the aims strategies and conventions of academic prose especially analysis and argumentation. WRT 205 Studio 2: Critical Research and Writing 3 credit hours). Study and practice of critical researchbased writing including research methods presentation genres source evaluation audience analysis and library/online research. Students complete at least one sustained research project.
Responsibilities
The duties associated with teaching assignments include: Developing and/or updating a class syllabus. Ordering appropriate books and materials in advance of the class start date. Preparation of projects or other student assignments. Maintaining regularly scheduled office hours. Presenting instruction based on the competencies and performance levels of the course. Meeting all designated class periods. Submitting completed midsemester progress reports and final grades according to University regulations. Grading student assignments and exams in a timely manner. Providing departmentally sanctioned forms for completed student evaluations. Building a positive rapport with students and other faculty. Keeping current with developments and trends in the departments curriculum and in the field of rhetoric and composition.
Qualifications
MA or MS with graduate coursework in Composition and Rhetoric English or related field. Experience teaching writing at college of high school level required.
