The Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services (DPSCS) is seeking dedicated candidates to fill important roles within our department. We are one of the largest departments in Maryland with nearly 12000 employees and a budget of more than $1 billion. In order to fulfill our mission of promoting safety we have increased security at our institutions while leading the way in innovative restorative justice projects that will help offenders reintegrate into society upon release.

Conducts interviews with the offender in order to determine progress in meeting conditions of probation.
Interviews and communicates with offenders and others in person by telephone or by written correspondence during the monitoring period.
Creates and maintains an official record to document case activity when monitoring offenders by following Agency policies and procedures.
Produces documents to communicate information regarding offenders to the Courts MVA or related agencies and to recommend appropriate action.
Attends hearing in various Courts throughout the State in order to visually identify offenders and to testify from official records regarding offenders being monitored .
Provides testimony in support of specific recommendations resulting from observations and investigations of offenders conduct.
Insures compliance with conditions of probation to maintain the offender in the community with minimal risk to the public by applying Agency policy and procedure training and experience.
Assesses the offenders needs and the risk to public safety during an offenders probationary period.
Recommends actions to the courts in regard to violations of court ordered probationary conditions.
Obtains samples (breath and/or urine) from offenders to detect use of alcohol and/or to insure compliance with conditions of probation.
Communicates with treatment providers and community resources in order to enhance the offenders rehabilitation and to promote public safety.
Gathers case information to identify additional information needs;documents observed behaviors of offenders.
**Disclaimer: Must be comfortable administering substance abuse screening and breathalyzer to detect BAC levels and testifying at court hearings.**
Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate acceptable to the Maryland State Board of Education as described in the Maryland Correctional Training Commission regulation.
Experience: None.
Note: The above educational requirement is set by the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission in accordance with Correctional Services Article Section 8209 of the Annotated Code of Maryland.
1. Employees who have not already done so must meet the selection standards required and successfully complete the training prescribed by the Maryland Correctional Training Commission for a Drinking Driver Monitor during the probationary period (Correctional Services Article Section 8209 Annotated Code of Maryland). Selection standards for Drinking Driver Monitor training are listed in detail in the Code of Maryland Regulations Title 12 Subtitle 10 Chapter 01 and include the following:
U.S. Citizen or Resident Alien status
Must be at least 21 years of age
A completed background investigation
Oral interview
Physical examination.
2. Employees in this classification are required to use the Criminal Justice Information System. Conviction for any felony or conviction and incarceration for any misdemeanor may be a bar to access to the System and may be grounds for rejection of the applicant.
