Position Overview
The Department of Military Affairs is looking to hire an Electrician located at the Marseilles Maintenance Center.Under general supervision performs journeyman work in the installation maintenance and repair of all electrical components and distribution systems for the Illinois National Guard. This position is subject to emergency callups as required during nonduty hours.
Essential Functions
- Travels to various locations throughout Northern IL to perform job duties as a member of the North Maintenance Team.
- Troubleshoots and repairs electrical circuits and equipment.
- Maintains cleans and repairs hand tools power tools meters special tools and equipment.
- Assists instructs and monitors skilled and unskilled workers as it pertains to the repair and performance of electrical assignments.
- Initiates and submits proper material documentation for supplies/tools needed to perform facilities maintenance and repairs.
- Instruct and supervise semi/unskilled maintenance workers when assigned to assist with maintenance of electrical components and distribution systems.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires knowledge skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four years of high school.
- Requires successful completion of a recognized electrician apprenticeship program and four years fulltime journey level electrician experience; or 8 years of fulltime journey level electrician experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prefers working knowledge of tools methods and standard practices
- Prefers the ability to read interpret and work from plans and sketches
- Prefers knowledge of established State and National Electrical Codes building construction and electrical wiring diagrams
- Prefers knowledge of troubleshooting techniques for electronic control circuitry such as fire and security alarm systems
Conditions of Employment
- Requires the ability to pass a DoD background investigation and obtain a DoD Common Access Card (CAC) prior to hire or transfer.
- Requires statewide travel as part of a Maintenance Team within the normal workday hours.
- Requires possession of appropriate valid drivers license.
- Requires ability to lift and carry 80 pounds i.e. heavy boxes supplies and equipment.
- Requires being on feet for long periods of time.
- Requires ability to be on feet climb ladders and stairs and/or stooping for long periods of time.
- Requires ability to withstand extreme temperature changes.
