Livestock Receiving Manager

Purpose and Scope: We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Livestock Receiving Manager to join our team in Ottumwa IA. In this role you will be responsible for overseeing the smooth and efficient receiving processing and initial care of livestock arriving at our facility. This is a handson position that requires strong leadership skills a passion for animal welfare and the ability to work effectively in a fastpaced environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Receiving and Processing: Oversee the unloading sorting and initial assessment of livestock ensuring proper identification and documentation.
  • Animal Welfare: Monitor animal health and wellbeing identifying and addressing any issues promptly.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of livestock arrivals weights and any treatments administered.
  • Team Leadership: Supervise and train receiving staff ensuring adherence to procedures and safety protocols.
  • Communication: Collaborate with other departments (e.g. plant operations hog suppliers sales to ensure seamless operations.
  • Problem Solving: Identify and resolve any issues that may arise during the receiving process.
  • Safety: Ensure a safe working environment for yourself and your team.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Oversee the maintenance and upkeep of receiving equipment.
  • Process Improvement: Identify opportunities to improve receiving procedures and efficiency.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Experience: 3 years of experience in livestock handling and management with experience in a receiving environment preferred.
  • Skills: Strong leadership communication and organizational skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Knowledge: Knowledge of animal health welfare and handling practices.
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. Associates or Bachelors degree in animal science or a related field preferred.
  • Physical Demands: Ability to lift and carry heavy objects stand for extended periods and work outdoors in various weather conditions. Ability to perform essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.

  • As a salaried position with the company you may be required to travel at some point to other facilities to attend Company events or as a representative of the Company in other situations. Unless otherwise specified in this posting the amount of travel may vary and the most qualified candidate must be willing and able to travel as business needs dictate.

The applicant who fills this position will be eligible for the following compensation and benefits:

  • Benefits: Vision Medical and Dental coverage begin after 60 days of employment;
  • Paid Time Off: sick leave vacation and 6 company observed holidays;
  • 401(k): company match begins after the first year of service and follows the company vesting schedule;and
  • Incentive Pay: This position is eligible to participate in the Companys annual bonus plan the amount of bonus varies and is subject to the standard terms and conditions of the incentive program;
