Job Description

Position Overview

The Automotive Body Shop Technician is responsible for performing highquality repairs on damaged vehicles restoring them to their preaccident condition. This role involves working with a variety of tools and materials to perform tasks such as dent repair frame straightening panel replacement and refinishing. The Body Shop Technician must have a keen eye for detail a thorough understanding of automotive repair techniques and the ability to work efficiently to meet deadlines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Damage Repair:

    • Assess vehicle damage and determine the appropriate repair methods.
    • Perform structural and nonstructural repairs including frame straightening welding and panel replacement.
    • Repair or replace damaged body panels doors fenders bumpers and other components.
  • Surface Preparation:

    • Sand grind and prime surfaces in preparation for painting.
    • Apply body fillers and perform necessary sanding to ensure smooth surfaces.
    • Mask and tape vehicles to protect areas not being painted.
  • Quality Control:

    • Conduct thorough inspections of repaired vehicles to ensure all work meets quality standards.
    • Perform final adjustments and touchups as necessary.
    • Test drive repaired vehicles to verify proper alignment and functionality.
  • Tool and Equipment Maintenance:

    • Maintain and clean tools equipment and work areas.
    • Ensure that all equipment is in good working condition and report any issues to management.
    • Stay updated on new tools technologies and repair techniques.
  • Safety and Compliance:

    • Follow all safety protocols and use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
    • Comply with local state and federal regulations regarding vehicle repairs.
    • Dispose of hazardous materials according to environmental regulations.
  • Collaboration and Communication:

    • Work closely with estimators to understand repair plans and timelines.
    • Communicate with parts associates to ensure timely delivery of needed parts.
    • Collaborate with other technicians and body shop staff to achieve efficient workflow.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional technical training or certification in automotive repair is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of automotive repair techniques and procedures.
  • Proficiency in using a variety of tools and equipment including welding machines frame straighteners and spray guns.
  • Ability to read and interpret repair manuals and technical specifications.
  • Excellent attention to detail and quality craftsmanship.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work efficiently and manage time effectively.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift and carry parts and equipment up to 50 pounds.
  • Frequent standing walking bending and kneeling.
  • Ability to work in a body shop environment which may involve exposure to loud noises dust and fumes.

Work Environment

  • Primarily in a body shop environment.
  • May involve occasional exposure to extreme temperatures depending on the season and shop conditions.

  • Efficiency in completing repairs within estimated timeframes.
  • Customer satisfaction and feedback.
