Were currently searching for an Accessible Materials Coordinator to join our Services for Students with Disabilities team in Blacksburg VA to help us in our mission. HERES WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE ROLE:
1 Youll be joining the Services for Students with Disabilities (SSD) team; a department centered on providing access to students with disabilities. SSD works to ensure that students with disabilities receive equal access to curricular and cocurricular opportunities in the university community in compliance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Amendments Act of 2008.
2 Youll be reporting to the Associate Director in a Regular twelvemonth 100 administrative professional appointment.
3)Youll be responsible for ensuring students with disabilities receive equal access to university programs and maintain a caseload for students with emergent illness and injury to include direct services reviewing documentation establishing eligibility determining appropriate student accommodations assisting with problem solving and communicating among faculty staff parents and students.
4 Youll consult with faculty and staff to advice on the accessibility of course materials for students with disabilities and collaborate with campus partners to support the creation of accessible course materials.
5 Youll plan prepare and perform the conversion of required academic materials into alternative formats to be utilized by students with printbased disabilities including blindness/lowvision learning disabilities and mobility impairments.
6 Youll coordinate with members of the accommodations to ensure students receive accessible material accommodations such as: note taking support alternate format text accessible furniture coordination and assistive technology training.
7 Youll have the chance to grow and take advantage of a developmental plan with opportunities to advance within the Department and the Division.

Required Qualifications
Bachelors degree and/or equivalent amount of experience working in disability services in higher education.
Experience communicating effectively with multiple stakeholders.
Experience working in the field of disability services rehabilitation services higher education social work etc.
Strong organizational skills to effectively manage multiple requests and competing deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrated experience developing and delivering technical training to a nontechnical audience.
Ability to use a wide variety of popular assistive technologies (e.g. Dragon NaturallySpeaking ZoomText Kurzweil JAWS and builtin accessibility features in Google Microsoft Windows Apple Adobe etc.
Experience performing accessibility remediation of documents (e.g. PDF Word PPT and Excel) and strong knowledge of best practices when creating accessible class materials (PDF Word documents PowerPoints Videos Captioning etc.
Expertise with remediation software (e.g. Duxbury Adobe Acrobat Abbyy Finereader MathType EquatIO etc. used to remediate inaccessible course materials.
Experience converting course content (textbooks lecture notes tests etc. to Nemeth and literary Braille.
