Basic Functions:This is a nonexempt position.Serves as a member of a crew of up to 20 people assigned to wildland urban interface and hazard fuel reduction fuels treatment projects. Also participates in prescribed burning and wildland fire suppression activities. Crew work assignments normally involve the cutting of trees and brush pruning limbs piling or chipping slash and building fireline. Employees search out and extinguish burning materials by moving dirt applying water by hose and backpack pump. Patrols and extinguish sparks flareups and hotspot fires that may threaten firelines. The crew will assist with prescribe burning by preparing units for burning holding and supporting firelines during burning or participating in ignition operations during burning. The crew will also participate in wildland fire prevention patrol suppression mop up and rehab operations. Various hand tools such as shovels Pulaski McLeod council rake and power tools including chainsaws trimmers and pole pruners are often utilized to complete work assignments. Maintains tools. Other equipment utilized may include portable pumps engines; hose lays using appropriate nozzles and nozzle adjustments. Operates motor vehicles on unimproved roads and in off road situations. May assist more experienced personnel in more specialized assignments such as backfire burnout mobile and stationary engine attach construction of helispots helitack operations and performing hover hookups. The employee will develop a working knowledge of fire suppression and fuels management techniques and practices. Through work experience the employee will learn about the effective use of water and additives working in and around helicopters and air tankers safety rules basic fire behavior fire and fuels terminology. Participates in fire and safety training in the techniques practices and methods of fire suppression and in the safe efficient operation and use of tools equipment and vehicles used in project and fireline activities. Participates in crew proficiency checks and drills. Participates in safety sessions and fire critiques. Ensures own and others safety in all aspects of assignments.

TRIBAL MEMBER AND INDIAN PREFERENCE WILL APPLY; PREFERENCE WILL ALSO BE GIVEN TO HONORABLY DISCHARGED VETERANS WHO ARE MINIMALLY QUALIFIED.
If required of this position you must possess and maintain avalid Washington State drivers license and be eligible for the Tribes Vehicle Insurance. In addition this position may be subject to preemployment background clearances. If applicable these clearances must be maintained throughout employment.
