Job Description
Covenant Health is one of Canadas largest Catholic healthcare providers and a strong partner in Albertas integrated health system leading a broad range of healthcare services in hospitals and healthcare centres in urban and rural communities. The Covenant family (Covenant Health Covenant Care and Covenant Living) provides acute care continuing care and independent living services at 26 sites in 15 communities across Alberta.
Villa Caritas is a 150bed acute mental health facility that specializes in caring for seniors with complex mental and medical health issues. Villa Caritas provides appropriate timely intervention and care for seniors with a focus on treating their conditions and transferring them back home or to an appropriate care setting. Villa Caritas is associated with Covenant Healths Community Geriatric Psychiatry Program which provides follow up and support to seniors with mental illness living in the community.
The successful candidatemust have or be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta. Ageriatric psychiatry background and specialist qualifications FRCPC in Psychiatry or equivalent is a must have. Priority will be given to candidates with subspecialty training and certification in Geriatric Psychiatry.
Covenant Health in partnership with Alberta Health Services and the University of Alberta Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry Department of Psychiatry is accepting applications for a Geriatric Psychiatristat Villa Caritas in Edmonton Alberta.
In collaboration with their colleagues the successful candidatewill deliver a combination of inpatient and outpatient work and will participate in the programs inpatient oncall schedule and vacation coverage.
Service to outpatients will be provided through community geriatric psychiatry. There would also be an opportunity to work with the Continuing Care Psychiatry Consultation Service which provides geriatric psychiatry consultation to patients residing in continuing care. There may be future opportunity to participate in telepsychiatry and provide Rural Clinic consulting services.
The successful applicantwill be required to participate in the teaching program and will be expected to apply for a Clinical Faculty Appointment in the Department of Psychiatry University of Alberta which will be considered under a separate process through the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry. An interest in participating in various hospital committees sharing in some hospital administrative duties and participating in departmental grand rounds is also an expectation.
