Job Description


About the Client:


Were partnering with a wellestablished compensation law firm dedicated to serving Australians facing serious disabilities. They specialise in optimising Total and Permanent Disability (TPD) and other life/disability insurance benefits for clients unable to work due to illness or injury. Their focus is on helping clients secure their wellbeing during challenging times.


This firm recognises that most Australians contribute to Superannuation funds which often include TPD insurance. However many individuals lack awareness of their entitlements in the event of a permanent injury or illness. This firm aims to bridge that gap and advocate for their clients rights.

With a strong history of success the firms team has extensive experience managing insurance claims. They possess a deep understanding of Total and Permanent Disability benefits within superannuation insurance gained through years of representing individuals across various compensation and common law systems.


The firms initial focus is in Victoria with plans for national expansion. They are dedicated to securing disability lump sum payments from insurance companies. They are seeking an entrepreneurial and visionary leader with strong TPD legal practice and management skills to manage their Total and Permanent Disability practice. A financial interest in the firm is offered as part of the engagement.


Position Overview:


We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced TPD Business Manager to provide management oversight and responsibility across the Firm ensuring:


  • All operations and business activities produce the desired results and are consistent with the overall strategy and mission.
  • Strong and clear internal leadership motivating subordinates to advance employee engagement and develop a highperforming TPD team.
  • The development of highquality business strategies and plans aligned with shortterm and longterm objectives.
  • The TPD Manager is expected to act with integrity and in accordance with the organisations code of conduct and values.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:


Initial Role:


  • Review existing client files to identify ongoing TPD claims and assume conduct of those matters.
  • Review client files to identify potential TPD claims and initiate action.
  • Determine which TPD claims can be transitioned to the Firm.
  • Educate staff on the requirements for potential TPD matters to facilitate referrals.
  • Educate staff especially the New Client Support Team to transfer new TPD inquiries to the Firm.
  • Assist in planning and implementing marketing strategies to expand the new file workflow.

Business Management:


  • Responsible for the expansion and management of the TPD Compensation Lawyers practice.
  • Manage the productivity of the business with the full support of all stakeholders.


Business Development:

  • Build relationships with organisations that will promote referrals to the Firm.
  • Develop and implement marketing initiatives to attract new work to the Firm.

Financials:


  • Set budget targets and report progress regularly.
  • Establish clear budgets for the Firms overall operations.
  • Create key targets for the Firm in its first year of operation for income expense and profit.
  • Revisit the financial performance at the end of each Financial Year (FY) and reset key targets for the forthcoming year.

People Management:


  • Collaborate with management to recruit and manage a TPD support team.
  • Provide technical support to enable the team to handle claims under supervision.
  • Contribute to team growth training performance and development.

Culture and Leadership:


  • Communicate positively clearly consistently and regularly.
  • Embody the Firms values and lead by example.
  • Work collaboratively and positively.
  • Create a work environment that recruits supports and develops a highperformance team.
  • Ensure that the team is motivated cohesive and aligned to achieve optimal results.

Finance & Operations:


  • Provide general oversight of all the Firms activities manage daytoday operations and ensure a smoothly functioning efficient organization.
  • Liaise with Human Resources and Marketing teams to ensure all systems and processes are fit for purpose and support the achievement of key objectives.

Legal/Compliance


  • Assure all legal and regulatory documents are filed and monitored in compliance with laws and regulations.


Skills & Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience with TPD and/or insurance matters is a bonus. Experience working for Plaintiffs as a lawyer in the personal injury sector with a combination of TPD matters is also highly regarded.
  • Experience in business management is highly desirable.
  • Ability to build and effectively manage relationships with team and key contacts.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Good investigation and problemsolving abilities.
  • Ability to selfmanage prioritise and time manage multiple tasks to meet tight deadlines.
  • Marketing skills are highly desirable.
