The Surgical Services Technologist assists with the total care given by the interdisciplinary team members to the surgical patient under the direction of the Registered Nurse. Patient care is provided in preoperative preparation intra and post operative assessments and the planning and delivery of care.
- Prepares for surgical cases by anticipating the needs and having supplies instruments and equipment readily available. Assists with room preparation to facilitate patient turnover.
- Provides visualization of the operative site using appropriate method including manipulation of tissue and materials retraction sponging suctioning and irrigation.
- Utilizes appropriate technique to achieve temporary and permanent hemostasis.
- Assists with body plane closure application of wound dressings and securing of drainage systems.

Certifications:
Current credential as a surgical technologist (CST) issued by the National Board of Surgical Technologist and Surgical Assistant (NBSTSA) or has practiced as a Surgical Technologist or attended a Surgical Technologist training program at any time prior to October 1 2022
Current License to practice as a surgical technologist in the state of Virginia. New graduates have 30 days to obtain license with proof of application and receipt of payment.
Required: Basic Life Support (BLS) (may be obtained week of orientation)
Required Skills
Requires critical thinking skills decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action. Excellent verbal written and interpersonal communication skills.
Minimum Work Experience
Preferred: One year experience as a surgical technician in General GYN Urology and Orthopedic procedures.
