Position Summary: A scientist/engineer position is available in the Nanoscale Characterization Facility NCF ; www.nano.indiana at Indiana University Bloomington. The NCF is a core research facility for use by students staff and faculty and houses instrumentation for micro and nanoscale fabrication and characterization of materials with nanoscale dimensions. The NCF resides on the ground floor in Simon Hall and has 2000 ft2 of laboratory space and 1300 ft2 of clean room space. Current instrumentation includes a focused ion beam instrument (Zeiss Auriga 60 scanning electron microscope FEI Quanta 600 with a nanopattern generation system (Nabity NPGS atomic force microscope (Asylum Research MFP 3D) nanoimprint lithography instrument (Nanonex NX2500 and scanning xray photoelectron microscope PHI VersaProbe II) along with a number of other instruments. Over the next two years these capabilities will expand to include dedicated ebeam lithography reactiveion etching atomic layer deposition plasmaenhance chemical vapor deposition and ebeam evaporation. This available position is for a scientist or engineer with experience and interest in micro and nanoscale fabrication and characterization which will primarily make use of the instruments within the facility. This position is useroriented; consequently the primary duties are related to interacting with users developing new experiments supporting experiments and problem solving in support of user research. Primary Responsibilities: 1 Oversee daily operations of the NCF 2 Operate and maintain the instruments within the NCF 3 Train users on these instruments and assist with experiments and data analysis 4 Develop methods and collect preliminary data 5 Work with users from research groups to advance their projects 6 Foster collaborative projects with research groups Additional duties include: 1 Conduct billing of instrument time 2 Maintain the NCF website 3 Contribute to proposals to acquire new instruments for the NCF 4 Participate in outreach activities 5 Maintain store and backup data IU Bloomington is located in the rolling hills and hardwood forests of southern Indiana. Bloomington is a university town with a vibrant music and arts scene but without the crowds and traffic of a large city. Indianapolis Cincinnati St. Louis and Chicago are all within a fourhour drive.
