Looking for a summer job
Therapeutic Recreation Services is looking for energetic enthusiastic individuals who love working with children and adults with disabilities!

This is a parttime seasonal position. The Day Camp Activity Leader assists in the preparation and operation of Funshine Day Camp in providing supervision of recreational activities for children/adults with developmental and/or physical disabilities at Shadle Park and various field trip locations. This position reports to the Camp Director.

Dates:
  • Training: June(Times/Days TBD). Required training includes one week 16 hours) as determined by the Director.
  • Camp: June 23 to August 8 2025.
  • Monday Friday hours are generally 8:30am 2:30pm but are subject to change depending on program needs. Evening hours are available for other TRS positions.
  • Additional hours may be available for leading other Therapeutic Recreation Services (TRS) programs and events.
Interviews take place in April so please get your application in by April 25 2025.

EXAMPLES OF JOB FUNCTIONS

The following Responsibilities and Requirements are functions the individual who holds or desires the position must be able to perform unaided or with the assistance of a reasonable accommodation.

Planning

Documenting
  • Ability to document incident reports and behavioral tracking effectively.
  • Ability to take attendance.
  • Ability to correctly fill out timesheets and manage hours worked.
Camp Operations
  • Plans the weekly schedule of camp activities with fellow staff.
  • Implement planned activities effectively.
  • Adapt activities for the needs of all campers.
  • Supervision of children in a pool setting.
  • Ability to multitask and interact with up to 4 campers at a time. 1:4 ratio).
  • Complete sunscreen checks every hour.
Parent/Guardian Interactions
  • Respectfully handles questions problems and concerns of parents/guardians before and during camp.
  • Interacts professionally with caregivers and caregiving organizations.
  • Monitors caregiver interactions with participants to ensure quality of care.
  • Greet parents at checkin/out during the morning and afternoon. Answer any questions parents may have during this time.
  • Manage upset/concerned parents and answer all questions.
Community Interactions
  • Communicate professionally and respectfully with Library staff and community members.
  • Communicate professionally and respectfully with Shadle pool staff and community members.
General
  • Knowledge of camp policies rules and guidelines as well as general practices and procedures followed in the Parks & Recreation Department.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Desired Qualifications
  • The ideal candidate will have experience working with children and or adults with disabilities.
  • Interest in recreation.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others.
  • Valid drivers license is preferred.
