Description

JOB title: MANUFACTURING ENGINEER

REPORTS TO: ENGINEERING MANAGER

Job Classification: NONEXEMPT

Job Status: FULLTIME

JOB Purpose:

Clearly develop and document efficient manufacturing processes for optimum cycle time and minimum reject rate.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Implementation of new and or revised products into the production facility including:
  • Source and cost justification of tooling and equipment for manufacturing processes.
  • Assembly methods and improved process flow.
  • Production work instructions.
  • Operator training.
  • Development of targets and monitor progress to goals.
  • Improvement to quality and production efficiencies.
  • Optimize process flow.
  • Optimize cycle time.
  • Development of plans to reduce level of s or rejects at each step.
  • Aid in implementation of operator level quality inspections.
  • Conduct cost reduction programs.
  • Quality improvement.
  • Efficiency improvement.
  • Manufacturing problem resolution.
  • Reject percent reduction.
  • Cycle time reduction.
  • Streamline manufacturing steps and paperwork.
  • Project development and implementation.
  • Create standard operating procedures.
  • Develop and implement efficient layout and material flow;
  • Work cell layout.
  • Material flow through cell.
  • Material flow through plant.
  • Training.

Authority:

  • Calculate project pricing and ROI for new and existing project implementations.
  • Prepare execute and monitor project schedules.
  • Create change and update standards (ERP Systems and Processes).
  • Requisition and/or direct when tooling materials and other manufacturing components should be acquired.

NONESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Uphold the Tool Gauge fundamentals in all aspects of job performance.
  • Approve visual work instructions for:
    • Molding of plastic parts with any at the press secondary or assembly operations.
    • Manual and CNC machining.
    • Secondary or assembly operations.
  • Building and equipment layout.
  • Teach implement and sustain lean manufacturing.
  • Identifies and implements manufacturing process improvements using Lean and continuous improvement including Kaizen.
  • Collaborate with engineering to determine;
    • Auxiliary equipment.
      • Hand tools.
      • Automation.
      • Fixtures.(Assembly & Inspection)
    • Packaging.
  • Ensuring all new manufacturing project elements are well communicated and in place for successful handoff(s) to production.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge Skills & Abilities:

  • Extensive working knowledge of Word Excel and PowerPoint.
  • 3D CAD modeling Solidwork Catia.
  • 2D print reading and creation.
    • Part drawings.
    • Assembly drawings.
    • Tooling drawings.
  • PL / BOM reading and construction.
  • Able to train all levels of manufacturing personnel (supervisors to operators).
  • Able to write reports business correspondence and work instructions.
  • Able to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers suppliers and customers.
  • Knowledge of automation.
  • Analysis and problem solving.
  • Value stream mapping.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelors degree (B.S. from a fouryear college or university in Engineering.
  • Three to five 35 years of experience and/or training in the plastic injection molding field preferred.
  • Experience in a contract manufacturing organization preferred.
