Job Description

Under the direction of the Phlebotomy Supervisor and within established organizational and departmental policies and procedures receives patients gathers and enters patient registration information orders tests generates specimen labels and escorts patients to phlebotomy services. Performs phlebotomy on all patient populations. Responsible for performing a variety of semitechnical and clerical tasks involving specimen receiving sorting data entry record retrieval filing typing envelopes and responding to telephone inquiries for results testing general information and routing of other calls. Covers Patient Service Centers and Outside Services as required.

Demonstrated competence as a Phlebotomist I.
Demonstrated model of excellence and in good standing with institutional and departmental policies and procedures.
Demonstrated competency with Affinity and LIS computer programs including both accuracy and speed.
Demonstrated interpersonal organizational and telephone skills.
Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks and maintain organized working conditions (even in stressful situations).
Demonstrated ability to cover a Patient Service Center and Outside Services as required.
Maintains a minimum of 3 units from any of the following qualifiers:

1. Competent in registration and ordering process for outpatients; demonstrated ability to work independently at a Patient Service Center (PSC). Worth 2 units
2. Majority of hours worked is servicing nursing homes group homes and homebound patients. Worth 4 units
3. Provides coverage as needed in Outside Services.
4. Majority of hours worked is between 4 pm4 am.
5. Demonstrated competence in specialized collections such as syringe draws inpatient pediatrics foot draws etc.
6. Owner/Coowner of a PSC.
7. Demonstrated and repeated willingness to flex schedule/assignment to accommodate staffing needs.
8. Manages a specific task/project overseen by Laboratory Supervisor.
9. Daily Coordinator/Leader in Supervisors absence.
10. CDH Phlebotomy Team member for a minimum of 3 years.
11. Current National Certification as a Phlebotomist with one of the following:
a. American Society for Clinical PathologyPBT(ASCP)
b. National Credentialing AgencyCLPlb(NCA)
c. American Medical TechnologistsRPT(AMT)
d. National Health career AssociationCPT(NHA)
