Completion of formal trainingprogram and registration/certification in one of the diagnostic imagingmodalities. Advanced MR certification within 18 months of hire date.
SKILLS/ ABILITIES/ COMPETENCIESREQUIRED:
Mental/visual ability to operatecomplex electronic equipment and instrumentation and perform quality controlprocedures on equipment; ability to transfer patients to MR scan table and pushtable from prep room to exam room; must lift and transfer patients tostretchers etc.
Must demonstrate appropriateknowledge of the principles of growth and development of patients of all agegroups. Must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to providecare appropriate to the age of the patients served on the assigned unit.
A minimum of high school diplomaand successful completion of an accredited school of Radiologic Technology.Must be certified by the ARRT and must possess a valid license to practice as aradiologic technologist in the state of Massachusetts.
CPR certified at BLS level.

Under general supervision performsmagnetic resonance imaging (MRI) studies using a magnetic resonance device thatincludes preparing patients positioning setting imaging parametersperforming computer processing and displaying images. Assists indeveloping protocols for patient studies. Performs quality controlprocedures on equipment.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES ANDRESPONSIBILITIES:
Performs magnetic resonance imaging(MRI) studies using a magnetic resonance imaging device that includes preparingpatient positioning setting imaging parameters performing computerprocessing and displaying images.
Performs scheduled quality controlprocedures on magnetic devices and other related equipment. Reviewsresults with supervisor and reports any potential equipment related problems tosupervisor as necessary.
Prepares for and performsintravenous injection of MR contrast agents including the use of the MRcompatible power injector. Understands and can communicate the possiblecontraindications as well as monitor for and respond to adverse reactions to MRcontrast agents. Records all information regarding contrast injectionsappropriately.
Instructs patients and visitors inMR safety procedures.
Ensures adherence to safetypractices by all persons entering the MRI area.
Assists in developing reviewingand revising protocol for patient studies and recording of important patientinformation in Medical record.
Assists in the instruction ofvisitors and medical staff rotating through the area. Explains patientprocedures processing equipment operation safety practices etc.
Maintains a neat work environmentincluding patient care areas MR scan rooms MR control rooms and readingareas.
Assists receptionist and otherDepartment staff in various duties as necessary (i.e. scheduling andtransporting patients taking stock inventory filing etc..
Develops knowledge of MR physicsthrough onthejob training reading etc. and keeps current on newdevelopments in MR imaging.
Identifies hazardous systemmalfunctions; secures area and removes patients and personnel from magnet bayduring emergency situations.
Performs other related duties asrequired.
