SUMMARY:
The Licensed Practical Nurse provides skilled nursing care under the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse. The LPN provides nursing services that are within the area of expertise approved by the Florida Board of Nursing and with consistency to the patients plan of care.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides services in accordance with agency policies which include:
  • preparing clinical and progress notes;
  • assisting the Registered Nurse or physician in performing specialized duties;
  • assisting the Registered Nurse in carrying out the plan of care;
  • assisting the client in learning appropriate selfcare techniques.
  • Prepares clinical and progress notes (not to include admission).
  • Observes records and reports to the appropriate person symptoms reactions and changes including general physical and mental condition of clients and signs and symptoms which may be indicative of untoward changes.
  • Assists the Registered Nurse in performing specialized procedures as directed by the Registered Nurse under physicians orders
  • Fosters cooperative effort among personnel by understanding the functions of other persons involved in client care and by active participation in team and staff conferences.
  • The Licensed Practical Nurse with the education and proven clinical competence may perform certain treatments/procedures provided the PACEs policies and the States regulatory acts allow their performance. Only Licensed Advanced trained Practical/Vocational Nurses with documented skill in performing these functions may:
  • Administer medications observe and report signs of adverse reactions.
  • Inspect intravenous insertion sites and remove peripheral I.V. needles/catheters.
  • Hang hydrating fluid without medications.
  • Hang I.V.s premixed with medications.
  • Flush peripheral lines with saline or heparin solutions.
  • Changing bandages wound dressings & Catheters

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Knowledgeable of service guidelines.
  • Demonstrated emergency medical technical competencies.
  • Associates degree (A. A. or equivalent from twoyear College or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES:
Licensed as a LPN in the State of Florida and CPR certification.
