SAS ASL Interpreters receive technical and functional direction from the SAS Interpreting Services Specialist. SAS ASL Interpreters will provide interpreting services for Deaf and HardofHearing individuals
Minimum Requirements:
Interpreting/Transliterating Level 0
This is a mentoring level. Required: High School Diploma and completion of an ASL Ethics Course. Preferred: Completion of an Interpreter Training Program.
Interpreting/Transliterating Level I
Level One requires a minimum of 02 yrs of experience a High School Diploma completion of an ASL Ethics Course and an ASL Interpreting evaluation. Completion of an Interpreter Training Program is preferred.
Interpreting/Transliterating Level II
Level Two requires a minimum of 24 yrs of experience a High School Diploma completion of an ASL Ethics Course and an ASL Interpreting evaluation. Completion of an Interpreter Training Program is preferred.
Interpreting/Transliterating Level III
Level Three requires a minimum of 45 years of experience a High School Diploma completion of an ASL Ethics Course and an ASL Interpreting evaluation. Completion of an Interpreter Training Program is preferred.
Interpreting/Transliterating Level IV
Level Four requires a minimum of 56 years of experience a High School Diploma completion of an ASL Ethics Course and an ASL Interpreting evaluation. Completion of an Interpreter Training Program is preferred.
Interpreting/Transliterating Level V
Level Five requires a minimum of a RID Certification or completion of RID written test and an ASL Interpreting evaluation or EIPA Level 4/5 and an ASL Interpreting evaluation.
Exceptions to minimum eligibility qualifications may be granted at the sole discretion of the hiring department/authority.

Environment: Work is performed primarily in a standard office setting.
Physical: Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office setting; to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; to occasionally stoop bend kneel crouch reach and twist; to occasionally lift carry push and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight up to 25 pounds; to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard; and to verbally communicate to exchange information.
Vision: See in the normal visual range with or without correction; vision sufficient to read computer screens and printed documents; and to operate assigned equipment.
Hearing: Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.
