Job Description
The Syracuse University Office of Research seeks a Research Administration Analyst to support research and creative activities in the arts and humanities. As a key member of the Research Services team the Research Administration Analyst for the Arts and Humanities is responsible for pre and postaward departmental research administration for faculty in arts and humanities disciplines across campus as they secure and utilize funding for research and scholarly work. Reporting to the Director of Research Services with a dottedline relationship to the Director of Research Development for the Arts and Humanities the analyst will partner with principal investigators/project directors (PI/PDs) divisional finance and administration teams and other campus units to facilitate administrative operations throughout award lifecycles ensuring both compliance and efficiency.
Responsibilities
Manage postaward administration of sponsored projects collaborating with project directors/principal investigators (PD/PIs) division finance and administration teams the Office of Research and other campus units. Initiate project startup including facilitating newaward meetings confirming assurances of compliance preparing sub award documents and coordinating staffing. Monitor regulatory compliance of sponsored projects with the Office of Research Integrity and Protections. Monitor schedules for sponsorrequired reporting including progress reports and final reports and assist in completing reports as necessary. Assist division finance and administration teams with postaward fiscal activities such as invoicing reconciliation and travel/expense reimbursement as needed. Analyze funded projects and complete monthly budgettoactual expenditure summary reports; communicate reports and findings to PD/PIs providing the opportunity for timely project/budget modifications. Schedule and facilitate quarterly meetings with PD/PIs to review expenditure summary report and perform longrange forecasting to ensure effort distributions and expenditures are appropriate and on schedule. Prepare nonfinancial documents such as budget modifications amendments and nocost extensions. Manage preaward administration processes to develop and submit proposals for external funding collaborating with PD/PIs division finance and administration teams the Office of Research and other campus units; ensure complete and ontime submission. Interpret sponsor guidelines and University policies for the PD/PI/project team; maintain knowledge of existing laws policies and procedures necessary to comply with Federal State University and sponsor regulations concerning grants and contracts. Develop project budgets considering sponsor and University policies including coordinating across schools and colleges and across institutions to support collaborative projects; provide PD/PIs with advice on budget allowances and restrictions direct and indirect cost rates and other budgetary issues based on sponsor guidelines and University policies. Prepare applications components ensuring compliance with sponsor guidelines; navigate sponsor submission systems. Prepare route and submit internal documentation including SU budget template subrecipient commitment forms waivers/prior approvals as applicable and SU Internal Routing and Review IRR form. Continuously develop and maintain a strong working knowledge of funder rules and regulations that govern research grants and contracts; stay informed about sponsor terms and conditions for submitting and administering grant awards as well as University policies and procedures. Participate in professional development activities including oncampus training meetings and workshops; webinars and selfpaced learning modules; and professional conferences. Collaborate with departmental research administrators and central Office of Research staff to enhance proposal development processes and implement grants management best practices. Provide support for division and campuswide endeavors to enhance research and creative activities in the arts and humanities. Provide programmatic assistance for trainings workshops and other events. Participates in Office of Research College of Arts and Sciences and Humanities Center meetings and events including staff and committee meetings and research seminars and speaker series. Other positionrelated duties as assigned.
