The University of Miami/UHealth Department OBGYN has an exciting opportunity for a fulltime Clinical Laboratory Assistant 3 to work in Miami FL. The Clinical Laboratory Assistant 3 performs a variety of routine duties in assisting technical and professional personnel in clinical and research laboratories. An incumbent in this position provides broad support for the laboratory operations.
CORE JOB FUNCTIONS
Identifies handles and accessions patient samples requiring laboratory testing.
Transports specimens and communicates test results timely and accurately.
Maintains required laboratory files and logs system in a neat and accurate manner.
Performs specimen processing such as centrifugation aliquoting and volume measurement.
Maintains adequate inventory level as per protocol.
Participates in the performance improvement processes for the department.
Maintains assigned work area in a clean and orderly condition.
Maintains confidentiality of all patient information according to federal and state guidelines and regulations.
Generates patient reports and forwards them to the proper departments/physicians.
Investigates and responds to all inquiries related to referral testing; Answers all inquiries made by the Reference Lab and resolves problems associated with improper or inadequate samples.
Provides responses to all inquiries made by physicians or patient unit personnel related to specimen requirements.
Maintains adequate inventory levels as per protocol and rotates previous stock when it applies.
Reviews packing slips verifies number of items received documents and provides copies to supervisor/designee.
Serves as a lead/Backup when Supervisor is unavailable.
Adheres to University and unitlevel policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.
Department Specific Functions
The Andrology Technician performs technical duties involved in the Andrology laboratory housed in the Center for Reproductive Medicine. The Andrology Technician will work closely with the IVF/Embryology lab director to reinforce protocols and quality standards. The incumbent collaborates with medical nursing counseling and administrative staff in furtherance of the overall goal of performing analyses and procedures related to the andrology laboratory. Additionally the incumbent helps with patient chart preparation verifying consents scanning and printing laboratorypatient files. The Andrology Technician enters data into the local and regulatory electronic medical record (EMR) and databases as needed.
Performs routine Semen Analysis including sperm morphology analysis with strict criteria.
Performs sperm testing for DNA fragmentation and leukocyte or other nongerm cells quantification.
Performs fructose test sperm antibody testing if indicated.
Performs sperm cryopreservation of ejaculated samples or surgically retrieved samples (epididymal or testicular samples).
Maintains quality control and assurance procedures in the laboratory.
Performs troubleshooting operation and maintenance of analytical instrumentation.
Updates patient records and report analysis results in EMR to be signed by the ordering provider.
Maintains and updates SOP pertaining to Andrology procedures under the direction of the IVF/ Embryology lab director.
Maintains accurate patient care records and retains the confidentiality of all patient information according to federal and state guidelines and regulations.
Order laboratory equipment and supplies as needed
Active participation in research activities
Cares for and maintains equipment.
Works directly under supervision of Lab Director/Division Chief
Adheres to University and unitlevel policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS
High School diploma or equivalent
Minimum 4 years of relevant experience
Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
Ability to analyze organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.
Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.
Ability to work evenings nights and weekends as necessary.
Commitment to the Universitys core values.
Ability to work independently and/or in a collaborative environment.
Any appropriate combination of relevant education experience and/or certifications may be considered.
