The UHealth System at the University of Miami has an exciting opportunity for Full Time Certified Respiratory Therapist 1.

Up to $5000 Sign On Bonus

CORE JOB SUMMARY:


The Respiratory Therapist Certified 1 (U) assists in the diagnosis treatment and management of patients with pulmonary disorders. The incumbent collects and analyzes sputum blood and breath specimens to determine levels of oxygen carbon dioxide and other gases. The Respiratory Therapist Certified 1 (U) measures the lung capacity of patients to determine if there are any impairments.


CORE JOB FUNCTIONS:


1. Conducts tests such as electrocardiograms stress testing and lung capacity tests to evaluate patients cardiopulmonary functions.
2. Performs bronchopulmonary drainage and instructs patients on how to perform breathing exercises.
3. Sets up and operates devices such as mechanical ventilators therapeutic gas administration apparatus environmental control systems and aerosol generators.
4. Reads prescriptions measures arterial blood gases and reviews patient information to assess patients condition.
5. Determines requirements for treatment such as type method and duration of therapy precautions to be taken and medications and dosages.
6. Explains treatment procedures to patients to gain cooperation and allay fears.
7. Educates patients and their families about their conditions and teaches appropriate disease management techniques.
8. Monitors patients physiological responses to therapy.
9. Maintains charts that contain patients pertinent identification and therapy information.
10. Inspects cleans tests and maintains respiratory therapy equipment to ensure equipment is functioning safely and efficiently.
11. Adheres to University and unitlevel policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.
