Summary

Lighting Design Professional Plays a critical role on the design team having a minimum of six years of lighting design related experience. Understands all conventional aspects of lighting design. Independently performs a variety of assignments requiring the application of standard lighting design practice for a wide variety of project sizes. Offers lighting design expertise to a well integrated design team spanning several offices that work on communityoriented architecture and design.

Essential Functions:

• Performs luminaire selection lighting calculations lighting controls selection and application creates specifications review alternative solutions provide pricing and cost estimates complete code compliance documentation assists in bid phase and construction administration
• Fully integrated into the project design team offering lighting design ideation education and advocacy
• Responsible for producing lighting portions of construction documents for the project lead including but not limited to light fixture layouts lighting control device layouts and associated energy code daylight zoning information.
• Responsible to conduct field observations of existing facility lighting and control systems and create and/or assist in the creation of reports related to lighting
• Responsible to research and document products materials and/or construction installation methods.
• Obtain and file support documents from manufacturers for items such as IES calculation files product performance data and other similar lighting design data
• Effectively communicate with manufacturers or their representatives on products and installation guidelines and be able to capture and transfer that knowledge to other team members
• Perform cost analysis for various options using standard construction economic fundamentals
• Perform energy code analysis
• Complete interior and exterior lighting calculations per industry best practices
• Knowledge of general building construction practices and processes
• Responsible to consistently capture the intended interior and exterior design vision of the overall project
• Collaborate and peer review with lighting design team members
• Construction Administration for assisting during the bidding phase as well as perform submittal reviews and provide responses to request for information (RFI) inquiries from the construction team.

Competencies:

• Understanding how lighting design integrates into architecture interior design landscape and construction practices.
• Experienced with the lighting needs and design considerations of various building typologies including PreK12 Higher Ed and Healthcare Project types.
• Understanding of the scientific principles of light and its application to the built human environment.
• Able to communicate conceptualization and design concepts including clear graphic communication of design ideas
• Keep required documentation for lighting specifications code compliance forms LEED and WELL criteria.
• Working knowledge of lighting technology lighting controls and calculation software such as AGi32 Dialux Visual or other lighting design software.
• Good understanding of daylighting practices
• Proficiency in Bluebeam preferred
• Proficiency in Revit Documentation preferred
• Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suites a plus
• Must independently apply sound understanding and judgement to visual verbal or written instructions
• Ability to meet schedule deadlines and work within the project budget
• Proficient organizational skills
• Proficient verbal and written communication skills
• Collaborative and professional work ethic

Certification Requirements:

• CLD Certification from the International Association of Lighting Designers (IALD) preferred
• LC Certification from the National Council on Qualifications for Lighting Professional (NCQLP) a plus
• LEED AP Certificate a plus
• WELL AP Certificate a plus

Supervisory Requirements:

• None

Work Environment:

• This position operates in a professional open office environment with low to moderate noise levels including collaborative work areas for team meetings. Each office provides collaborative work areas and shared resources such as video conferencing printing/scanning and a caf for dining. NAC offers a hybrid working environment that allows the ability to work from home a certain number of days during the week. Building construction sites may include varying temperatures wind dust and noise levels and may include hazardous and dirty conditions.

Physical Demands:

• Hand/Wrist/Finger dexterity for 8 hours a day 40 hours a week
• Ability to lift a set of construction documents
• Ability to sit for long periods of time

Position/Hours expected to work:

• This is a fulltime position with the expectation of working a minimum of 40 hours per week

Travel

• Occasional travel as needed

Required Education and Experience

• Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering Industrial Design Interior Design Theater Design or related field required
• A minimum of six years of lighting design experience in the A/E/C industry
