Job Summary
India stands at acomplex challenge of ensuring universal nutritional security for an increasingyet largely deprived population in a rapidly changing climate. This needsaction beyond producing more food we need to evolve what we eat and how weproduce process and distribute our food.
Naturebasedsolutions particularly in agriculture can have farreaching impacts on humanhealth. While evidence exists on some fronts such as association of cropdiversity with diet diversity we need to collectively think of ways how whatwe produce and how we produce can improve what we eat and how we eat.
CEEW seeks to hirea suitable candidate for an Intern position in the Sustainable Food Systemsteam to expand its capacity to conduct research and drive change. We arelooking for a detailoriented researcher with a hunger for impact and theambition to make our food system sustainable.
The successfulapplicant will assist the team members in undertaking robust quantitative andqualitative analysis. In addition to the duties and responsibilities outlinedbelow the candidate should be prepared as and when necessary to take onadditional responsibilities and respond to events and developments that cannotbe anticipated easily.
Responsibilitiesand Duties
Research
Independently manage allocated workstreams onquantitative and quantitative applied research on varied food system issues.Such workstreams include but are not limited to (i) identification of optimalresearch question(s) (ii) designing the research approach/framework (iii) ifrequired development and of primary surveys (this includes designingthe questionnaires survey monitoring coordinating with field staffs andanalysis of the survey data) (iv) if required systematic literature reviews (v)if required conducting stakeholder consultations (vi) conducting the relevantanalyses using appropriate qualitative and/or quantitative tools (e.g. MSExcel STATA etc. and (vii) presenting the analyses in a coherent narrativein different formats
Travel to field sites whenever necessary to conductfieldwork including focus group discussions interviews meetings training orgather primary information
Proactively supporting team in effectivelyoperationalizing the CEEWs Arc of Learning
Regularly track policy measures taken by the governmentand its implementation status related to sustainable agriculture andsustainable food systems in India
Write highquality research reports publish in leadingpeerreviewed journals and generate other knowledge products for the differentaudience such as blogs policy briefs in regular intervals
Establishing and managing relationships with projectcounterparts from CEEWs partners
Project/Programme Assistance
Support the senior researchers in conceptualising newprojects development of highimpact research proposals and applications forresearch and general donor funding
Support effective outreach of research outputs throughcoordination with the outreach team engagement with a broader network ofstakeholders and concerned policymakers
Participate in relevant conferences workshopstraining programmes for a comprehensive understanding of developments relevantto sustainable agriculture
Support senior team members for important meetings andsessions prepare notes and conduct followups as required
Participate in weekly team meetings and assist withpreparing minutes and chairing the weekly meetings
Selection Criteria and Key skills
Mastersdegree in nutrition/public health/food systems/agriculture/agroecology/naturalresource management or any other relevant field relevant for food systemtransformation.
Analyticalskills and knowledge of mixed methods qualitative and quantitative researchmethods relevant for impact evaluation food system analysis politicaleconomy analysis etc
Project management skills to independently manage research workstreams
Familiarity with food and agriculture issues policyareas and consumer trends
Strongcommunication skills for effective efficient and adaptive verbal and writtencommunication and active listening
Experience in dealing with stakeholders (farmersgrassroots workers government etc. preferred
Abilityto use MS Office application suite
Desirable:Relevant publications in peerreviewed journals/book chapters
Willingness to learn new (research and projectmanagement) skills
Ability to adapt to a new environment and deliver undertight deadlines in a professional environment
Striving for rigour in research andquality in work output
Ability to effectively work in a team while drivingresearch with minimum assistance when time demands independently.
Ability to dig deeper into details while also keepinga sense of the broader objectives and big picture
Willingness to learn grow and develop at personal andprofessional front at a rapid pace with a steep learning curve
Ability to work in an interdisciplinary andmulticultural environment
