About Us:

Founded in 1968 to meet the postsecondary and continuing education needs of Cecil County residents Cecil College has been serving the community and shaping its future for more than 50 years. The College is governed by a Board of Trustees appointed by the governor. The Colleges fifth president Dr. Mary Way Bolt reports directly to the Board of Trustees.

Cecil College is centrally located in Marylands most northeastern county just one half mile from Interstate 95. It is easily accessible from Philadelphia and Baltimore as well as from Wilmington Delaware.

With a diverse student population Cecil College enrolls approximately 2500 credit students and 3400 noncredit students. Cecil offers associate degrees certificate programs and noncredit classes. Cecil offers a variety of associate degree and certificate programs.

Employees of Cecil College including instructors for online and virtual courses must be residents of Maryland or the contiguous states of Delaware Pennsylvania Virginia West Virginia or the District of Columbia.
Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the US as the College does not offer Visa sponsorships.

General Description:

A simulated patient is supervised and directed by the course instructor and is not involved in assessment activities. Their position is to perform as a simulated patient during practical examinations based on standardized repeatable patient cases which will be provided to them in advance of the test date.

Details:

  • For a fiscal year (July 1 through June 30 the simulated shall serve as a contracted employee of the College.
  • Simulated patients will be hired and paid on a PRN basis at an hourly rate established at the time of contract.

Responsibilities & Duties:

As a simulated patient the duties are to:

  • Serve as a patient during practical exam assessments which will involve a simulated patient case in which the patient will be coached on the presentation actions and responses to ensure consistency in the assessment process. This may involve the patient being subject to treatment interventions including but not limited to the use of therapeutic ultrasound electrical stimulation manual therapies cervical and/or lumbar traction therapeutic exercises functional mobility training with/without assistive devices and patient education regarding disease processes and rehabilitation. It is the responsibility of the patient to advise the faculty/student physical therapist assistant of any personal contraindications to the interventions planned in advance of the testing date. The primary instructor will review the interventions with the patient to facilitate conversation regarding contraindications and ensure the patients safety.
  • Review patient case materials in advance of the date of service to ensure a quality student experience.
  • Use the College email account assigned to the member and check that account on a daily basis.
  • Adhere to all FERPA regulations.
  • Complete all mandatory annual education required by the institution.

Qualifications:

  • Student or Graduate of an accredited PT or PTA program or deemed equivalent program.
  • Strong communication organization interpersonal problemsolving and counseling skills.
  • Current knowledge and skill in the use of information and computer technology (e.g. word processing email database) or proven ability to learn these skills.
  • Able to work with students with special needs based on the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
  • Knowledge of legislative regulatory legal and practice issues affecting clinical education students and the profession of physical therapy.
  • Able to work independently and coordinate work with colleagues and peers.

Preferred Attributes:

  • Licensed PT or PTA in any US state.
  • Member of the American Physical Therapy Association.
  • Prior teaching experience in PT or PTA program or equivalent coursework.
  • Knowledge of education management and adult learning theories and principles.
  • Active in clinical practice especially as applicable to clinical education.
  • Active in professional activities at local state and/or national levels.
