Job Description Summary:

Are you ready to make this summer the best one yet Join our team as a Summer Camp Counselor and spend your days creating unforgettable memories leading exciting activities and making a real impact on the lives of campers! Camp Amico is a 7 week summer camp dedicated to providing a safe inclusive and engaging environment for individuals ages 1021 with developmental disabilities. Our team works collaboratively to deliver recreational activities that promote personal growth social interaction and fun. Staff members are responsible for creating supportive relationships with campers facilitating adaptive activities and ensuring safety while fostering an enriching and memorable camp experience. Ideal candidates are compassionate patient and enthusiastic with a commitment to empowering individuals of all abilities.

What Youll Be Doing:
Arts & Crafts Extraordinaire: Channel your inner Picasso and help campers unleash their creativity with painting DIY projects and more. Glitter may be involved (and embraced)!
Water Sports Wizard: Dive into the fun with kayaking paddleboarding swimming and water games. Youll be the hero of the splash zone!
Adventure Leader: Guide campers in team challenges scavenger hunts and outdoor exploration. Bonus points if you can build the ultimate campfire story!
Leadership Guru: Mentor campers inspire teamwork and help kids build confidence and friendships that last a lifetime.
Chief Fun Officer: From silly camp songs to epic danceoffs youll be at the heart of the fun spreading joy and laughter every day.

BPRs Community Programs Team provides recreation and leisure programming to Boulders youth (camps) people with disabilities (EXPAND) and underrepresented communities (YSI). We are looking for passionate dedicated and creative staff to work directly with individuals supervising and supporting them in activities while making a difference in their lives. If you are looking to build leadership skills while having fun then this is the position for you!

This job is parttime with varying hours each season based on the programs offered. Roles include being a camp counselor at summer or school day off camps and being a program staff at weekly activities and special events with people with disabilities and/or people living in lowincome housing sites.

Job Description:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Assisting with Recreation and Leisure Activities for youth and teens

  • Set up and take down of activities

  • Explaining the rules of a game or activity to groups of 515 youth/teens

  • Promoting participation and encouraging teamwork

  • Complete tasks when asked/directed by leaders director and coordinators

  • Leading parts of activities i.e. lead a drill at basketball)

Supervision of Participants

  • Supervise and interact with participants with a variety of different needs and abilities

  • Actively engage with participants in activities

  • Providing 1:1 support to youth teens and adults with disabilities as needed

  • Supervising the proper use of equipment by youth and teens

Ensure safe environment for Participants

  • Follow general safety recommendations and regulations for Community Programs Team

  • Enforce safety procedures and program rules

  • Assess emergencies and provide first aid when necessary

Behavior Management

  • Utilize behavior management/ support techniques to adequately ensure participants safety

  • Utilize group management skills to keep participants safe and engaged

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience and/or interest in working with youth.

  • Minimum 16 years of age

  • Ability to create a fun and engaging environment for participants.

  • Ability to provide excellent customer service to participants and parents/guardians

  • Physical ability to participate in activities run climb swim lift or support the weight of children

  • Ability to evaluate conditions in assigned area and make decisions related to safety

  • Ability to communicate effectively when enforcing policies rules and regulations

  • Willingness and ability to work as part of a team

  • Willingness to provide support to people with disabilities

  • Knowledge of sports games and leisure activities

  • Ability and willingness to attend and complete trainings as including State of Colorado Child Care requirements.

  • Have and maintain acceptable background information including criminal conviction history.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience working with youth teens people with disabilities and/or underrepresented communities in group or 1:1 settings

  • Experience leading recreation or leisure programming with youth teens and/or adults

  • First Aid CPR and AED Certified

  • Experience supervising groups of youth and/or teens

  • Experience working with and/or supporting people with disabilities.

  • Knowledge of injury prevention and treatment

  • Knowledge of principles and experience instructing sport recreation or leisure activities.

  • Ability to communicate with parents/guardians on campers progress and express concerns when needed

  • Bilingual in English/Spanish

  • Lifeguard Certified

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

No previous experience necessary. Must be interested and excited about working with youth teens people with disabilities and underrepresented youth.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

  • Must have sufficient strength agility stamina and flexibility to lift carry or move a variety of objects up to 20 lbs.

  • Must be able to work while crouching kneeling bending stooping or assisting children for long periods of time.

  • Must have sufficient hearing to be able to hear and discriminate differing sounds in a variety of situations.

  • Sufficient vision to be able to discriminate between colors size and type of objects and people both close and distant.

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high.
