The Bus Driver position will start as an hourly position and when the incumbent has meet all the license and training requirements could be offered a contract position with benefits should a contract position be available.

Our bus drivers are essential in making sure students get to school safely and are ready to learn. To recognize their important role for the 202425 school year the district is offering a special cash bonus to all district bus drivers.

New drivers can earn up to a $1000 bonus after obtaining their CDL completing training and driving for 60 consective days with excellent attendance and positive performance record.

For current bus drivers hired before October 16 2024 there are two opportunities to earn a $1000 bonus during the academic year. To qualify drivers must maintain a positive performance record excellent attendance and a clean nonpreventable accident record.

JOB SUMMARY

The Bus Driver transports students over scheduled routes and to/from special excursions; ensures the vehicle of operation is in safe operating condition; and ensures the safety of students during transport loading and unloading from buses.

Promotional opportunity to a contract benefits eligible position upon successful completion of initial training.

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

All positions require selected candidates to be fingerprinted and successfully pass a criminal background check.Additional minimum required qualifications for this position are:

  1. High school diploma or equivalent
  2. Valid Drivers License and evidence of insurability
  3. Must be 21 years of age or older
  4. Have or obtain a Commercial Driver License (CDL) within 60 days of hire. The district will provide all essential training needed to obtain a CDL
  5. Able to roll push pull bend reach stoop and lift up to 50 pounds
  6. Ability to pass the Physical Assessment Standards for Utah School Bus Drivers
  7. Speak read write analyze and follow written and verbal communication in English; listen to and understand information and ideas presented verbally or in writing
  8. Adaptability and understanding of cultural differences while coping with stressful situations related to students and maintaining confidentiality

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

These are examples of skills and experience that the bestqualified candidates may have.Not having one or all of them does not disqualify any candidate from consideration.

  1. Prior experience working with children with special needs
  2. CDL endorsements (including passenger air brakes and school bus)

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Drive school bus and other vehicles to transport passengers over scheduled routes to and from school field trips and other occasions in a safe and timely manner
  2. Assist students and other passengers (e.g. students in wheelchairs students with special needs etc. to provide safe loading and unloading from buses including both emergency situations and normal transport
  3. Assist other personnel as may be required (e.g. emergency situations etc. to ensure an efficient and effective work environment
  4. Supervise students and other passengers during transit to maintain safety and follow district policy. Report observations and incidents involving students (e.g. discipline accidents inappropriate social behavior etc. to appropriate personnel
  5. Advise students and other passengers of appropriate behavior (e.g. bus safety rules for students bus conduct reports etc. to reinforce regulations and maintain passenger safety
  6. Clean assigned vehicles (e.g. sweep and mop inside of vehicle wipe down seats clean windows etc. to ensure the safety appearance and sanitation of vehicle
  7. Maintain fluids in assigned vehicle (e.g. gas oil water antifreeze etc. to maintain vehicles in safe operating condition
  8. Perform pretrip and posttrip inspections (e.g. fluid levels tire pressure exterior condition walkaround inspection including lights etc. to ensure the safe operating condition of the vehicle and comply with mandated guidelines
  9. Assess incidents complaints accidents and potential emergency situations (e.g. monitor vehicle repair request sheets etc. to resolve and recommend a resolution to the situation
  10. Prepare documents and reports (e.g. field trip reports employee time cards incident reports inspection records passenger misconduct mileage logs student counts routing information federal state standards and district Policy reports etc. to document activities providing written support and conveying information
  11. Conduct emergency evacuation drills as mandated by state standards to ensure efficiency of procedures and compliance with mandated requirements
  12. Detail bus problems in a clear and concise manner (e.g. vehicle repair request etc. to maintain safe driving and operating conditions
  13. Report observations and incidents involving students (e.g. discipline accidents inappropriate social behavior etc. to communicate information to appropriate personnel
  14. Participate in meetings workshops and seminars as assigned to convey and gather information required to perform functions
  15. Respond to inquiries (e.g. students parents other school personnel etc. to provide and convey information
  16. Adapt to changing work priorities and work with frequent interruptions as required
  17. Support a team environment by collaborating with own and other work units to effectively perform the duties of the position
  18. Maintain regular and predictable attendance to fulfill job requirements efficiently and effectively
  19. Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure efficient and effective functioning of the work unit

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The usual and customary methods of performing the jobs functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting carrying pushing and pulling up to 50 pounds might need to drag up to 125 pounds some climbing and balancing some stooping kneeling crouching and crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 90 sitting 5 walking and 5 standing. The job is performed in varying atmospheric conditions.
