Bachelors degree in communications marketing web design or equivalent experience required.
Minimum 12 years experience writing editing and managing web content required preferably with a health care scientific or medical focus helping clients achieve marketing communication goals; 34 years previous experience preferred
Experience producing strategic content that incorporates market analyses website content strategy and business/project goals.
Demonstrated success optimizing content for search engines.
Ability to interact with professionals at all levels throughout a large diverse health care organization.
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
Basic Photoshop skills and knowledge of InDesign is helpful.
Excellent working knowledge of MS Office applications including Outlook Word PowerPoint and Excel; with exposure and familiarity with other web and graphic design development products.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Fast paced work environment. Ability to lift boxes of marketing material weighing up to 1020 pounds for purpose of event setup required. Travel to and from department events may be necessary. Some night and or weekend work may be required for events.
GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT:
Working under the direction of the Administrative Director this position will be responsible for all marketing communications & public affairs activities of the Department of Neurosurgery at Brigham and Womens Hospital. This position is a key member of the department and will provide web management email marketing campaigns creation of print materials announcements press releases and all related technical services in uploading/distributing such content in accordance of the departments content strategy and all BWH Marketing and Planning and BWH Communication & Public Affairs departments requirements. This position will also assist with event coordination planning and other related initiatives. Such content materials and events are valuable resources for current and prospective patients research collaborations and donor support from around the world and hence vital to the departments brand name recognition and awareness. Many of these items serve as the front door to the department and hence they are vital to the departments future growth and success. This position will work with members of the BWH Marketing and Planning staff BWH Communication & Public Affairs team Partners IS and external vendors to accomplish these activities.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Uses their strong technical skills in writing and implementing clear effective web pages and online solutions using the hospitals content management system (Interwoven TeamSite) and web design software to improve the departments intranet and internet sites in order to make them appealing for use by the three major key groups: patients and family members research collaborators and potential donors.
Participates in the departments creative development and management of the web site related emarketing efforts announcements press releases and all printed marketing materials for the department according to department strategy and within BWH Marketing and Planning and BWH Communication & Public Affairs departments guidelines to create visually compelling materials that meet audience information needs.
Demonstrates excellent writing editing and oral communications skills to ensure marketing material and web content are grammatically correct effective and appropriate for both clinical and research sections of the department.
Gathers requirements from BWH Marketing and BWH Communication & Public Affairs or other areas within the hospital when necessary and develops web pages templates page elements landing pages email templates graphics banners and other graphic materials for use in printed and online advertising and promotion.
Identifies and collects social media appropriate stories and promotions to be uploaded by BWH Communication & Public Affairs on corporate social media outlets.
Responsible for testing and troubleshooting external and internal website issues (e.g. linkchecking video operations code mapping email distribution applications).
Works with BWH Marketing and external vendors to determine & implement Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and Search Engine Marketing (SEM) strategies.
Responsible for constantly updating & maintaining all printed and electronic materials/content for the department to ensure accuracy and usefulness. Identifies gaps and areas for development and plans for archiving or deleting outdated content.
Assists in the planning and of academic conferences as well as patient education charitable giving and departmental events.
Maintains an annual calendar in regards to printed material email marketing campaigns and other advertisements to ensure that a constant marketing strategy occurs to build on name recognition and overall department brand awareness.
Researches new digital features tools and trends and as appropriate makes recommendations for their use.
Will be the super user for the BWH application Interwoven TeamSite and will be the lead trainer for any other department user of the application. Will be responsible for all content such trained users upload.
