Job Description

ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW

URI is the oldest licensed provider of domestic violence (DV) shelter and services in New York State and is the largest provider in the United States of DV shelter services as well as a leading provider of shelter and services for homeless families. POSITION OVERVIEW

The APIP Facilitator is responsible for direct service provision to participants. Direct services include group counseling utilizing a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy modality advocacy services referrals and followup. Individual must demonstrate sensitivity to issues related to the impact of the criminal justice system trauma and domestic violence. In addition the APIP facilitator will make all necessary assessments for the following needs: community agencies to provide proper placement of participants in areas of permanent housing vocational and educational services and to assist families in securing public assistance Medicaid or other benefits. APIP facilitator will conduct weekly monthly and quarterly risk assessments as well.

Salary:$42000 $46000

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Facilitate weekly group counseling to groups of 1215 participants.
  • Conduct interviews as assigned to assess and evaluate participants for risk to self or others.
  • Engage participants in the orientation and ongoing treatment processes through group counseling under clinical supervision of the Social Worker or Social Work Supervisor.
  • Assists all participants in the process of referral and placement in community based resources as assigned.
  • Assess participants vocational and educational needs aptitudes and interests through ongoing assessment and discussion. Document participant needs and refer to APIP Coordinator for placement into appropriate community based services and followup after assessment and counseling.
  • Participate in training seminars conducted to enhance and develop clinical skills with the client population.
  • Attend weekly conference calls monthly case conferences and staff meetings.
  • Function independently in time of facility coverage including responsibility for appropriate action in crisis situations per agency procedures.
  • Regularly assess the safety and wellbeing of clients
  • Develop with each group of participants a contract of mutually agreed goals and objectives to be accomplished within an agreed upon timetable.
  • Respond to Hotline calls as appropriate
  • Identify concrete needs and provide on an as needed basis.

SPECIFICATIONS FOR EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES

  • Bachelors Degree in Human Services

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • two 2 years of counseling experience preferred in a group setting.
  • Two 2 years of experience preferred in social services criminal justice system/jail/prison working with reentry and/or probation populations and experience and demonstrated skills in group counseling.
  • In addition must have lived experience or training and experience in interfacing with the criminal justice system accessing the vocational and educational service systems identifying the aptitudes of participants thorough familiarity and success with engaging participants experience.
  • Must be knowledgeable and sensitive to domestic violence and diversity issues
  • Must possess a demonstrated ability in delivering client services including: communication and listening skills understanding of human interaction and personality development the ability to write and record case documentation and demonstrated skills in group counseling.
  • Employee must be computerliterate and must have knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications.
  • Must have ability to be flexible of schedule as needed (evenings required)
  • Excellent written and verbal skills are required.
