Qualifications and Experience

Education/Degree
  • Bachelors Degree required.
  • Direct clinical research experience is highly valued.
  • Preference will be given to candidates withprior exposure to neurologic populations training/experience inneuropsychometric testing and database management.

Skills

  • Computer proficiency required. Microsoft office applications preferred with ability to learn new software.

Summary

The Research Assistant(RA) in the Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital (SRH) NeurorehabilitationLaboratory will assist with research activities associated with the hospitals NeurorehabilitationLaboratory. The SRH Neurorehabilitation Laboratory is directed by Dr. JosephGiacino Associate Professor of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at HarvardMedical School and Director of Rehabilitation Neuropsychology at SRH. Supervisionis provided by Dr. Giacino and by postdoctoral fellows. The primary mission of thelabisto advance scientific understanding of moderate to severe brain injury with aspecial emphasis on disorders of consciousness. Existing projects are focusedon novel applications of behavioral electrophysiological and neuroimagingprocedures to improve detection of consciousness in patients with severe speechand motor impairments refinement of neuropsychological and functional statusmeasures interventional trials aimed at accelerating and extending cognitiveand functional recovery and observational studies designed to identify moreaccurate prognostic indicators.


Key Responsibilities

The majority of the successful applicants time will befocused on a Department of Defense funded randomizedcontrolled drug trialinvestigating memory disturbance following TBI. However the applicant will becrosstrained to assist with several different research projects. Exposure tomultiple projects provides a rich training experience and ample opportunity todevelop a broad range of investigator skills. The RA will work closely with theResearch Coordinator and will also meet weekly with the Director on anindividual basis.


Specificresponsibilities will include:

Subjectrecruitment and screening activities

Medicalrecord data extraction

Developmentof study materials

Preparationof IRB applications

Neuropsychometrictesting

Completionof case report forms and online data entry

Telephonefollowup interviews

Data collationand data quality review

Assistance with preparation of meeting minutesand reports

Attendance at weekly lab meetings

Literature searches and reviews

Any other tasks assigned
