Provides administrativesupport to the Dental Manager and is responsible for the management of the dayto day activities of the dental receptionist including but not limited to: scheduling of patients recall system; meetsgreets assists and registers all patients and visitors to the dentaldepartment.
This position fills in forthe dental assistant as needed.
Clerical
- Providesadministrative support to the Dental Director Practice Manager Dentists andall other providers in the department
- Oversees dentalreception services and staffing
- Assures properstaffing to open and close the dental office according to health centerpolicies and procedures
- Assist in the coordinationof new patient pre and post registration.
- Ensures accurateinput of patient demographic information by dental reception staff
- Assures billing informationis collected and verified by dental reception
- Coordinates alltelephone duties such as: answers incoming calls calls patients to confirm appointmenttransfers phone calls to providers and dental staff; takes messages forproviders and coworkers and makes followup calls to patients when necessary.
- Coordinates dailyoperations and patient flow:
- Manages the dailydental schedule: Checks the daily schedule for accuracy and distributes thedaily schedule to all providers. Fillsin any cancellations sends recall cards and assures prompt response to dentalemergencies. Educates patients on the healthcenters missed appointment policy.
- Coordinatesdental care for patients with chronic disease
- Followup withcompleting dental treatment plans
- Coordinatesdental lab activities such as: retrieval of dental models and coordinates the pickupand lab deliveries. Keeps a log with theoutside lab information.
- Responsible forrequesting and organizing dental records. Updates and files dental forms andassures that dental records are stored securely and handled in compliance withHIPAA privacy and security regulations.
- Coordinates andassists patients with inhouse and outside referrals.
- Travel to satellites and mobile program as needed
- Aids in thecoordination of meetings and seminars for the dental department
- Other duties asassigned by supervisor(s)
- Manages andorganize the following clerical activities to ensure efficient operation of dental
department:
- Availability ofoffice supplies
- Collection anddistribution of departmental mail
- Overallappearance of reception area
- Interpretingservices for the department as needed
- Training andorientation to new employees newemployees
Clinical
- Fills in forthe dental assistant when needed andperforms the following duties:
- Greets andescorts dental patients to the dental treatment area
- Prepares thedental exam room for dental treatment by cleaning and disinfecting treatmentareas according to the health centers policies and procedures
- Prepares patientsfor dental treatment
- Pulls up dentalelectronic record and updates appropriate information
- Assists thedentist in the delivery of dental treatment: performs four handed dentistry takesand copies xrays. Removes temporary cement from crowns and re cements crowns.Delivers bleaching kit to patients
- Performs all infectioncontrol duties such as: cleaning andsterilization of dental instruments according to health center policies andprocedures
- Stocks dentaloperatories and maintains dental supplies in treatment areas
- Performs lab procedures such as: Alginate impressionsfabrication of dental models bite registrations night guards custom fluorideand bleaching trays
- Providesindividualized patient dental education in oral health promotion diseaseprevention and treatment procedures.
- Appliesanticariogenic agents including fluoride varnish
- Places and removesdental dams
- Cares for dentalequipment according to manufacturers instructions and performs the requireddaily maintenance of equipment
- Providesinterpreting services between dental provider and patients as needed

- Radiology and BLS certification required
- Current license to practice dental assisting in Massachusetts by the Board in Dentistry required
- Certification as a Dental Assistant by the American Dental Assistants Association preferred or
Successfulcompletion of a training program for dental assistants at a recognized schoolor trained on the job with experience
- Two years of experience as dental assistant required
- Previous experience with dental practice management electronic charting and digital radiography
Excellentorganizational and telephone skills pleasant manner experience with computerrecord keeping required typing skills helpful and knowledge of Italian/Spanishrecommended
Experiencewith dental software scheduling and dental terminology required
