The genetic counselor will work in both clinical and research settings. Clinically he/she will counsel patients at increased risk for cancer based on their family history. He/she will also participate in various aspects of clinical cancer research: from subject recruitment through writing of manuscripts.1. Collecting cancer histories for men and women who attend the highrisk cancer clinics..2. Providing education including risk assessment as part of genetic counseling to families with hereditary cancer syndromes3. Assisting patients undergoing DNA testing for cancer susceptibility genes.4. Assisting in the development of clinical research protocols for individuals at high risk for hereditary cancer syndromes or undergoing cancer predisposition testing.5. Developing educational opportunities for patients and providers regarding inherited cancer syndromes and predictive testing for cancer susceptibility genes.6. Representing MGH on the DanaFarber/Partners Cancer Care Committees on Cancer Genetics.7. Assisting in grant preparations manuscript preparations and academic conferences as they relate to genetic counseling.The genetic counselor must have a Masters Degree in Genetic Counseling or related field and a valid genetic counselor license from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Previous genetic counseling work experience isSTRONGLY preferred.Genetic counselor must have experience counseling individuals regarding DNAbased diagnostic testing. The genetic counselor must have good communication skills writing skills and an ability to work independently.Clinically the genetic counselor works in various spaces at the MGH (outpatient clinics inpatient rooms). Travel to additional MGH Cancer Center clinical sites (e.g. MGH North Shore Cancer Center MG West) as well as other satellite hospital sites is required.
