General Purpose of thePosition
As the Staff Interpreterreporting to the TE ASL Services Department Manager your primaryresponsibility will be to deliver precise and coherent ASL/Englishinterpretation services across diverse sectors including Federal Governmentcontracts private businesses educational institutions and medicalfacilities. Your assignments will encompass a range of scenarios includingoncall duties training sessions platform interpreting Video RemoteInterpreting and facilitating oneonone or small group meetings.Additionally you will be expected to participate in TE staff meetingspromotional events and conferences.
Essential Functions
- Conducts proficient sign languageinterpreting and translation services for clients across various environmentsadhering to established American Sign Language/English interpreting protocols.
- Consults with clients TE personneland service providers to identify any potential obstacles that may hinder thesuccessful delivery of interpreting services such as issues related toinstructional materials.
- Exhibits complete adherence to TEsstandards and policies as well as the RID Code of Professional Conduct whichincludes upholding utmost confidentiality at all times.
- Enhances interpreting skills throughcontinued education training.
NonEssential/AdditionalDuties
- Performs special assignmentsprojects and other duties that align with the mission and vision of thecompany.
- Represents the company as industry andcompany events and professional conferences as needed.
Requirements
Qualifications- A Bachelors degree and a minimum of 3 years of professional experience as a certified sign language interpreter across diverse professional and business environments.
- Active RID National Certification including compliance with any national state or local licensure and/or certification requirements.
- Must have reliable transportation to travel between different work sites.
- Must be able to obtain a US Secret Clearance (with our sponsorship)
- Ability to be assigned to the majority of TE customer contracts in the Washington Metro Area.
- Must possess and maintain national certification. Failure to maintain national certification will result in disqualification for this position.
Knowledge of:
- Proficiency in standard manual communication methods for the Deaf and hard of hearing encompassing American Sign Language Signed English fingerspelling and nonmanual expression such as facial eye and body language.
- The culture and cultural experiences of the American Deaf community.
- Current developments trends and techniques in the field of interpreting for both the Deaf and hard of hearing as utilized by the Deaf community.
- National Association of the Deaf (NAD)Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) Code of Professional Conduct Rehabilitation Act of 1973 as amended the Americans with Disabilities Act.
- Basic recordkeeping to develop materials procedures metrics and presentations.
- Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf Code of Professional Conduct and adherence to RID CPC at all times.
- Capabilities of computer systems equipment and software used in providing interpreting services for the Deaf.
Skilled in:- Conveying the sophisticated thought intent and spirit of a Deaf/hard of hearing or hearing speaker to a target audience with superior accuracy tact cultural competency and linguistic integrity.
- Interpreting/transliterating expressively and receptively using manual and oral methods of communication for the Deaf and hard of hearing.
Ability To:- Ability to employ an extensive sign vocabulary to ensure accurate interpretation across diverse subject matters and linguistic registers emphasizing proficiency in formal business and highregister highcontext vernacular.
- Establish and sustain cooperative and effective relationships with Deaf and hard of hearing individuals as well as individuals from diverse socioeconomic cultural ethnic and disability backgrounds.
- Capable of fulfilling the distinct responsibilities of a designated interpreter for executivelevel clients including seamlessly integrating into the clients team and adapting to their work environment.
- Ensure confidentiality of information shared during interpreting sessions.
- Effectively communicate through signing speaking and writing ensuring clear and accurate transmission of subject matter.
- Conduct research relevant to work and participate in continuous learning and professional development.
- Collaborate effectively within a team environment offering and receiving support from colleagues.
