The University of Nevada Las Vegas invites applications for *REVISED* Graduate Admission Counselor UNLV Admissions Graduate Recruitment R0146310

ROLE of the POSITION

The Graduate Admission Counselor reporting directly to the Assistant Director of Graduate Recruitment in the Office of Admissions maintains a high level of internal and external public contact serving as a liaison between the Office of Admissions various academic units and other organizations within the University. The Graduate Admission Counselor is responsible for outreach efforts in recruiting of prospective graduate students to the University. Outreach efforts include conducting admission presentations; setting up workshops for prospective students and families on navigating through the graduate application and admission process; participate in recruitment events to provide admission assistance/guidance; bringing prospective students and their families to the campus; making calls to prospects and inquiries for admission counseling; and proactively communicating with admitted students to ensure the students will be matriculating. Additionally incumbent will make preliminary determinations regarding eligibility for admissions based on knowledge and experience of records transcripts NSHE policies and official documents in making evaluations against the appropriate criterion; and recommending educational goals and admission requirements to potential students.

To reach their audience Admission Counselors are responsible for planning and managing recruitment activities in assigned regions. The counselors assume responsibility for implementing a marketing plan to attract the demographic in their target areas set by the Director of Recruitment. Counselors stay abreast of changes that occur in their target populations and identify potential barriers to recruiting and admitting new students. They take independent initiative to act in response to such barriers when possible and recommend action to the Assistant Director when larger barriers arrive.

This position is also responsible for providing leadership in carrying out special initiatives as assigned by Director or Assistant Director of Recruitment. The Graduate Admission Counselor will be expected to travel both in and out of state and work irregular hours and weekends.

By addressing systemic obstacles and implementing strategic services programs and support this position will play a part in enhancing student enrollment retention successful progression timely completion and equitable outcomes in order to meaningfully contribute to the institutions commitment to expand access grow enrollment and promote equitable student success.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

This position requires aBachelors Degreefrom an accredited college or university as recognized by the United States Department of Education and/or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and1 3 Years of Related Professional Experience. Credentials must be obtained prior to the start date.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

  • Must have a valid drivers license and a reliable vehicle with valid auto insurance.

KNOWLEDGE

  • Detailed knowledge of admission requirements academic requirements financial aid and state regulations. A successful Graduate Admission Counselor will have a working knowledge of the practices procedures and activities of all graduate programs and services at UNLV.
  • Knowledge of research and presentation techniques and knowledge of individual and group behavior. Critical job functions require the ability to follow national trends and use initiatives and resourcefulness to develop sophisticated recruitment strategies and communications.
  • Overarching knowledge of admissions trends locally regionally and nationally to inform strategies presentations and all relevant functions.

Skills

  • The candidate should be computer literate with the ability to assist in the creation and implementation of a webbased marketing and communication campaign telecommunications program as well as the use of emerging enrollment technologies.
  • General skills include the ability to multitask which is essential. Strong interpersonal and public speaking skills.

Abilities

  • Ability to interpret and convey critical information to the target audience.
  • Critical job functions require the ability to follow national trends and use initiatives and resourcefulness to develop sophisticated recruitment strategies and communications.
