SUMMARY
The IUPAT is seeking a Capital Strategies Associate to join our team and help drive the strategic allocation and growth of our financial capital. This position will focus on analyzing managing and optimizing where and how our money is invested. The Capital strategies Associate will work closely with senior leadership to develop strategic initiatives that ensure our investments align with the longterm goals of our union contributing to its growth sustainability and prosperity. The role will also involve identifying new investment opportunities assessing risks and returns and leveraging our capital to benefit both our union members and the broader community.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Evaluate current investments and assess their performance identifying areas where capital can be reallocated to maximize returns and support union priorities.
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive understanding of how our capital is currently deployed across sectors.
- Create an investment consultant scorecard
- Work with senior leadership to hold our investors responsible to our Responsible Investment Statement.
- Conduct detailed market research to identify potential areas for future investment including emerging sectors industries or geographical regions.
- Work with the team to evaluate and recommend new investment opportunities that align with the union’s mission social responsibility goals and financial objectives.
- Analyze financial markets economic trends and industry developments to identify investment opportunities that could offer both longterm financial growth and positive community impact.
- Monitor and report on the performance of investments ensuring they align with strategic priorities.
- Collaborate with union leadership and stakeholders to understand the financial needs and priorities that will support union growth member benefits and infrastructure development.
- Help design and implement initiatives that leverage union capital to support projects or ventures that provide longterm financial returns while benefiting the union’s membership
- Identify and create partnerships with external stakeholders (e.g. community organizations local businesses financial institutions) to increase the value and impact of union investments.
- Prepare detailed financial reports and presentations to communicate the performance of investments and capital strategies to union leadership and other key stakeholders.
- Assist in the development of investor relations materials that highlight how union capital is being used to support growth sustainability and the union’s strategic objectives.
- Regularly engage with external financial advisors investment partners and other stake holders to ensure alignment with the union’s financial goals.
- Collaborate with senior leadership to craft longterm capital strategies that position the union for sustainable growth and financial strength.
- Participate in strategic discussions around major capital decisions including largescale investments partnerships and opportunities for growth in line with the union’s values and mission.
- Put together policy and strategy recommendations for investment at the District Council level.
- Assist our General SecretaryTreasurer’s office on Compliance Audit.
- Work with the International Pension Fund and the GSTs office to review all dues assessments at the District Councils.
- Other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Strong understanding of capital markets Investment vehicles and risk management practices.
- Proven ability to analyze financial statements perform financial modeling and provide actionable insights.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to clearly articulate complex financial concepts to range of stakeholders including union members senior leadership and external partners.
- Strong Organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fastpaced environment.
- Must maintain strong working relationships throughout the organization but with a heavy emphasis on the following:
- General President
- General SecretaryTreasurer
- Chief Financial Officer
- Chief of Staff
- Senior Advisor to the General President for Capital Strategies
- International Pension Fund Administrator
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in investment management corporate finance or capital strategy.
- Experience in labor or union financial management preferred
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Working environment will be a combination of office work and fieldwork. The individual selected will be expected to travel as a component of this position.
