Job Description

Job Summary
Faculty member in the Surgical Technology program at Midland College. This position involves overseeing curriculum development faculty selection and evaluation resource management and compliance with regulatory requirements. The faculty member also engages in teaching student advising and professional development activities to promote student success and program excellence.

Essential Functions
General Responsibilities Fulfill faculty roles and responsibilities as outlined in Midland College Policies and Administrative Regulations in the Employee and Faculty Handbooks Adhere to philosophy and purpose of Surgical Technology program Maintain competency in Surgical Technology practice Administrative Responsibilities Contribute to departmental budget development Orient and mentor new fulltime and parttime faculty Oversee departmental purchasing Prepare reports for state agencies and accrediting bodies Ensure compliance with Midland College Policies and Administrative Regulations Ensure compliance with Accreditation Review Council On Education in Surgical Technology And Surgical Assisting Maintain departmental inventory Faculty and Staff Management Participate in faculty selection and evaluation Serve as the initial contact for student and faculty issues Recommend adjuncts for employment Recommend and oversee lab assistants Curriculum and Scheduling Develop syllabi and other learning materials Develop and implement curriculum and evaluate courses to ensure alignment with accreditation and industry standards Develop new courses and oversee revisions of existing courses as necessary Plan and organize lectures using research and reference materials Manage course schedule development and faculty assignments Ensure compliance with state agencies and accrediting bodies Plan and organize annual advisory committee meeting Collaborate with the program advisory committee for planning and evaluation Clinical Education Organize administer continuously review plan develop and enhance clinical experiences for students in the Surgical Technology program Ensure student compliance to preclinical requirements Ensure current clinical affiliation agreements contracts and memoranda of understandings and serve as a liaison between the college program and clinical agencies Coordinate clinical rotations and create schedules for all cohorts of students Solicit feedback on student performance from preceptors as applicable Educational Quality Assurance Coordinate and ensure the quality and relevance of educational offerings Develop evaluate and revise curricula with qualified faculty Oversee the accuracy of programrelated publications Identify and request necessary instructional resources Enhance instructional quality through reviewing and utilizing effective methodologies and delivery techniques Teaching and Student Support Teach classes and labs meeting the lecture equivalent hour LEH requirement as outlined in the Faculty Handbook including a release for administrative as prescribed by the accrediting agency. Summer instruction is required. Overload is compensated per Midland College policies Instruct students in facetoface (day and/or evening) hybrid and online courses according to syllabi and college policies Teach select dual credit courses Participate in academic counseling and oversee program advising and admissions Identify atrisk students and implement early interventions to promote success Develop and implement evaluation and assessment methods to measure mastery of student learning program and courselevel objectives Submit required reports forms and timely grading Keep records including but not limited to communication attendance and grades as required by Midland College policy Surgical Technology policy and Accreditation Review Council On Education in Surgical Technology And Surgical Assisting Oversee labs on campus and in clinical settings Student Engagement and Success Maintain a wellmanaged learning environment across instructional locations and modalities Communicate learning objectives to students Provide access to students through adherence to posted office hours and effective use of Canvas and electronic communication Professional Development and Community Engagement Participation in ARC / STSA & EdAccreds AFE workshop once every 5 years Participation in AccredX Conference Completion of ARC / STSA Site Visitor training Stay current with trends and innovations in the field Participate in professional development activities Contribute to the College and community through service activities Participate in student recruitment graduation and other official college functions as required by the division dean Vice President of Instruction or Provost Maintain professional relationships with students colleagues and the community Committee Involvement Serve on departmental division and collegewide committees Other Duties Perform other duties as assigned

Physical Demands
Remain in a stationary position for approximately 50 of the time Sit or stand for extended periods Move and/or drive to various locations on and offcampus including offices classrooms and clinical settings Lift and move boxes or equipment weighing up to 25 pounds Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation Utilize manual dexterity Frequently communicate with others ensuring accurate information exchange The ability to see details of objects that are at a close range and see differences between colors shades and brightness Ability to work extended hours Attend Midland College or community events as required Occasional travel for training meetings and events both in and out of town Ambulate to supervise students in the clinical setting

Required Qualifications
Associate Degree in Surgical Technology from a program accredited by a nationally recognized programmatic accreditation agency Education or experience in instructional methodology curriculum design and development program planning faculty and program evaluation and program/course assessment Current credential in the field of Surgical Technology through a national certification program that is accredited by the National Commission on Certifying Agencies NCCA Minimum total of 5 years experience either in the operating room scrub role or as an instructor in Surgical Technology or a combination of both within the past ten years Knowledge of Surgical Technology subject matter and relevant equipment Proficiency in basic computer applications for instruction and clinical practice Effective written and oral communication skills Ability to establish and maintain strong working relationships with clinical site staff Valid Texas Drivers license good driving record and insurability on Midland Colleges insurance policy

Preferred Qualifications
Baccalaureate Degree or higher Familiarity with budgeting scheduling purchasing and catalog processes Experience as department/program chair Experience with student and academic support services
